SUMMARY
The Content Marketing Specialist is responsible for creating engaging content, visual and written, to increase the use of Elkhart Public Library. Supporting the Communications Department, the Specialist contributes blogs, social media posts, and other creative work to inform and inspire the diverse English- and Spanish-speaking communities served. Working with the Audience Development Department, the Specialist assists with events and initiatives expanding EPL's reach. The Specialist also works with team members to build and maintain relationships with EPL community partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Organization-Wide EXPECTATIONS
- Follows established Library and personnel policy, procedures and work standards
- Attends work regularly, on time, and as scheduled
- Exhibits welcoming, helpful, positive and friendly behavior to all patrons, staff and guests at all times in all communications formats (verbal and non-verbal)
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information
- Regularly monitors Library communication venues including but not limited to employee email, staff bulletin boards and the intranet
- Participates in meetings, conferences, continuing education, community engagement, and special projects as required by the Elkhart Public Library or as dictated by professional commitment
- Addresses, or assists in addressing, issues and concerns related to the safety of Library staff and users as well as the security and maintenance of Library buildings and equipment
- Creates and prepares bilingual content, both written and visual, for the Library's websites, quarterly magazine and other printed materials, and social media channels.
- Participates with the entire Marketing and Community Relations team to create, develop and execute promotional campaigns, events and initiatives designed to expand Library use.
- Collaborates with all Library departments as needed when Spanish-language community engagement is needed at events and programs for various ages.
- Provides occasional translation of materials when circumstances demand quick turnaround (e.g., signage, social media posts, event fliers, etc.).
- Assists with keeping the Library's websites updated with current and accurate information and providing timely answers to community questions sent through social media, email or other means.
- Keeps current on community and social trends, as well as advancements in technology and content creation.
- Advises Communications Manager of content and community relations opportunities.
- Performs designated administrative, customer service, and/or clerical duties as needed.
WORK CONDITIONS
- Full-time (including some evenings and weekends)
- Frequent local travel, occasional long-distance travel
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Minimum associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited institution in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or related field of study
- Demonstrated fluency in English and Spanish required (the Library adds a premium to position's hourly rate for demonstrated conversational skills)
- Experience in media, communications, marketing, or public relations preferred
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record and personal insurability per the established guidelines of the Library's insurance carrier
- Ability to learn and adapt
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously in person and on the telephone with people in a business and public service context and with professional colleagues, both internal and external
- Ability to use word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software, as well as Adobe Creative Cloud and content management systems
- Basic clerical, computer and mathematical skills
- Ability to handle multiple work assignments and interruptions, prioritize projects and meet tight/strict deadlines
- Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and best practices, including social media
- Knowledge of modern library services and materials as well as standard office and library equipment
- Ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to work under general supervision with latitude in exercising independent judgment to maximize efficient workflow
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
