THE ROLE:

The Special Projects Videographer/Photographer/Editor is a creative and highly organized individual who is involved in all aspects of the creative process - this includes creative strategy and story development as well as content creation in the field and during the post-production process for our variety of video projects. They have excellent creative development skills and are responsible for strategically driving visual aspects of a creative project through the MediaSource system. The Special Projects Photographer/Videographer/Editor is a creative and strategic thinker who can plan and execute project assignments from concept to completion. The Videographer/Photographer/Editor has a background in shooting and editing high-end TV news stories and understands how to create content in different visual styles that are aligned with goals. They also have the organizational ability to navigate a diverse creative team. They are expected to be able to take full production, creative, logistical and fiscal responsibility for any project - including working directly with clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conceptualize and create stories with purpose. This includes creative development and execution of projects from conception to completion based on goals and expectations.
  • Visually telling stories with video utilizing the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) principles.
  • Non-linear editing and production of video content.
  • Ability to function in a variety of production roles including creative strategy, producing/directing talent, videography, script writing, coordinating, editing, motion graphics and final delivery.
  • Leading production in the field for video projects. This includes taking full creative and technical ownership in the field on assigned shoots. You are able to operate as both a "one-man band" videographer or paired with a producer.
  • Identifying any issues within the creative process and proactively work to develop/ present solutions.
  • Maintaining and managing MediaSource's data library for all shoot footage, project files and final deliverables in an organized and easily searchable manner.
  • Responsible for other aspects of moving projects forward which may include preparation for and leading internal brainstorms and/or client meetings and working with other producers/directors to create stories with purpose.
  • Identifying any issues within the creative process and proactively work to develop/ present solutions.
  • Updating management and team members on project status at regular department and/or project meetings. This includes being mindful of the creative approach, style, budget, resources available, project timeline, client expectations, etc.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of TV News storytelling. Must have proven creative and technical skills.
  • Ability to shoot in news style and other different video production styles.
  • Excellent time management skills and can turn around content quickly without sacrificing quality of work.
  • Detail-oriented, efficient and can multitask while self-managing priorities/assignments.
  • Passion for understanding industry trends, new technologies and software and how they relate to video content creation.
  • Bachelor's degree in video or film production, broadcast journalism, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with non-linear editing software.
  • Experience using, operating and troubleshooting a wide range of video production equipment is required with Canon and Sony products preferred.
  • Experience with MAC computers and software preferred.

Location: MediaSource is located in Columbus, Ohio. This is a hybrid role based in the Central Ohio area that includes both remote working, on location production and workplace-based in-person collaboration which takes place at a minimum of twice per week.

FLSA Status: Full-time, exempt employee

Travel: 20% travel will be required for conducting shoots or meetings outside of Central Ohio.
