Amazon seeks a Business Intelligence Engineer with strong technical, analytical, and business intelligence skill sets and experience to be a key partner for Amazons Advertising business focusing on amazon.com across all ad programs.
This role will be the key contributor supporting the APM Stores business. The person will build out the business insights, analysis practice, and data infrastructure for APM Stores stakeholders, gaining visibility across Ads, Retail, and Finance organizations. We generate insights to guide product and partner strategy, and we provide direct business strategy support to senior leaders. We are motivated to improve overall Stores experience for both our advertisers and shoppers through Ads.
As a key analytics partner, the Business Intelligence Engineer will influence the direction of the business by leveraging our data to deliver insights that drive decisions and actions. This role involves translating broad business problems into specific analytics projects, conducting deep quantitative analyses, and communicating results effectively. We see a high potential for growth in this role as we transform our data into actionable insights to continue to fuel the growth of this business. The role will help the organization identify, evaluate, and evangelize new techniques and tools to continue to improve our ability to deliver value to Amazons Customers.
This role requires an individual with excellent business, communication, and technical skills, enabling collaboration with various functions, including product managers, data engineers, finance managers, software engineers, data scientists, as well as senior leadership. The successful candidate will be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity and complex datasets and business problems. The person has strong ownership and an ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing, and high-energy environment.
Key job responsibilities
- Identify and support bridging the gaps/ finding opportunity areas between Ads and Stores teams through data analyses
- Present analytical findings and recommendations to business leadership through building models and/or pipelines
- Translate business problems into data questions, find solutions to solve those questions with resourcefulness
- Work cross-functionally with other teams in various job families to gather data sources to provide a comprehensive view of the business, inclusive of supply, demand, sales, operations, shopper, etc.
- Recognize and adopt best practices in reporting/analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation
This role promises to give exposure to a high growth business. This BIE will be actively involved in building new metrics, understanding impact of product changes, and identifying opportunities for growth through exploratory analyses including use of lightweight statistical techniques. This role provides the opportunity to use emerging technologies such as machine learning to build models and tools used by management for strategic decision making.
About the team
The APM Advertising Finance team supports various publishers, including Stores, Amazon Business, Books, Grocery/Physical Store, Devices, Video, Audio. Our focus is to accelerate top-line revenue and improve profitability by evaluating overall ad supply monetization and utilization, product feature or sales package adoption, campaign performance, and other various product drivers of growth.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience writing complex SQL queries
- Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling
- Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab
- Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
- Knowledge of SQL and data warehousing concepts
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift
- Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets
- Experience in understanding and translating ambiguous and complex business problems into data solutions and presenting findings to the leadership

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
