Electronics Design Lead

Indianapolis, IN (Hybrid working)

We have an exciting new opportunity for an Electronics Design Lead. As the Electronics Design Lead, you will mentor the electronics technical team through hardware circuit design, development, hardware testing and qualification testing of airworthy/certified electronic engine controllers and monitoring system. In this role, you will ensure that all electronic products meet all program requirements by providing technical mentoring to the rest of team. In this role, you will travel up to 25% between Rolls-Royce sites in Indianapolis and West Lafayette, IN as needed.

The Electronics Development Team is focused on the design/development/realization of the next generation Aero Engine Control System. The control system is designed to deliver world class efficiency, diagnostics, and cyber treat protection via a modern architectural solution. The Electronics Development Team will serve a wide range of gas turbine engines/applications.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Providing technical oversight and direction in the design and development process for new product development.
  • Ownership of electronic requirements, circuit design, analysis, reviews, FMEA and verification and validation testing
  • Engage in technical, manufacturing and supply chain issues and opportunities to enable quick decision making
  • Define the electronics test plans and test methods, review and approve the electronics design and test results
  • Ensure quality of output through internal gate reviews and other appropriate processes
  • Ensure project risks (technical, cost, supply chain and schedule) are identified and managed in accordance with the risk management plan
Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in electronics design, OR
  • Master's degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of experience in electronics design, OR
  • PhD in in Electronics/Electrical Engineering
  • In order to be eligible for consideration, you must be a U.S. Citizen
Preferred Requirement:
  • 6+ years' experience in circuit design
  • Experience in technical leadership, people management and project management skills
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis and other problem-solving techniques
  • Experience / Understanding of Safety Critical Control Systems (DAL A-C), High Integrity Control Solutions. Knowledge of RTCA/DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 environmental testing standards.
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI), change management, and risk management processes

Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location. It's a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement.
