General Technologies, Inc. (GTI) is needing a CAD Designer to join our team!
Purpose: This position is responsible for performing top-down new and existing product and equipment design, supportive drawings duties within the Engineering Design department. This CAD Designer is responsible for creating product designs, machine designs and/or developing, procuring and designing prototypes and or products to develop GTI intellectual and patented innovative products, systems, and equipment to meet directed specifications as provided by GTI Executive Management, Sales or Marketing members. Under minimal supervision and guidance, the Designer uses technical descriptions, sketches and verbal direction to develop, design or draft actual or conceptual products. Daily, the Designer will use knowledge of material qualities and properties, material standards, industrial processes and manufacturing procedures to complete this job. The assignments are project and/or product specific and will be measured on an effort-by-effort basis. This person will have experience collaborating with multiple departments, titles and those with a vast comprehensive design knowledge, education and experience.
Job Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Design and create complex drawings and 3D models/assemblies, layouts, of products/systems, machines, per specifications, and verbal advisement/directives.
- Review details for design soundness, manufacturability, and sustain durable operation.
- Ensure quality of drawings and functionality of equipment.
- Acquire measurements and complete as-built drawings for finished products.
- Review mechanical designs for new product parts, subassemblies and assembly configurations.
- Identify design flaws, recommend workable solutions and manufacture modifications.
- Prepare BOM (Bills Of Material), specifications and change orders (ECO/ECN)
- Design product layout and packaging with focus on DFM and Cost sensitivity
- Assist in finding solutions to design issues that impact product quality.
- Evaluate and analyze prototypes and design concepts.
- Review or interpretation of engineering plans provided by others to determine correct component orientation and material lists for produced product is required.
- Analyze and create plans and diagrams provided to determine compatibility designs or specifications. Inputs to internal customers to provide comments on manufacturing or construction activities to include or meet GTI innovative product target designs.
- Draw rough sketches or arrange finished drawings or designs to illustrate specified materials or component assembly sequence into an overall design.
- Work closely with Executive Management, Field Application Sales and Engineering/Design Department members to translate product and industry requirements into technical specifications and conceptual designs.
- Works with the GTI Product Development Team to ensure that reliability, ease of manufacturability and superior quality are included in the design of new products.
- Teams with appropriate members to have technical documents, manuals, bulletins, brochures, publications, training manuals and special reports created and accessible to company members.
- Research product design, capabilities, and compatibility ranges as required and directed by the manager.
- Research industry standards, governmental regulations, certifications and certifying bodies as designated by manager ensuring that specified products are designed, produced and evaluated to appropriate standards, and that they meet target market and customer expectations.
- Review various resources and prepare analyses or summaries.
- Participate in meetings as required with various managers and sales to ensure that specifications are clearly defined and understood before commencement of production of new products.
- Support design team with first article inspection when assigned by executive directive or department manager.
- As needed and designated by executive directive or department manager, support the need for, and completion of, 3rd party product and process testing and approval.
- Performs other duties as deemed necessary or as required and assigned by the manager.
- Associates or Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
- 2-5+ years of related design/drafting experience and CAD/CAM required.
- Proficient with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office Software.
- Industrial, Mechanical, Automation, and Electrical design experience with knowledge a plus.
- Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, ISO and CSA standards is beneficial.
- Knowledge of ratings and specifications of valves, fittings, tubing, hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC, engineered resins and equipment a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal - verbal and written communication skills.
- Initiative-taker with ability to multitask and work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Ability to participate as a team member.
- Working knowledge of machine design, background and experience in oil and gas valve design a plus.
