Actalent is seeking a PCB designer to design and develop PCBs in tandem with our electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers that meet stringent requirements for ruggedness, reliability and military applications. As PCB designer you will have hands-on input on many aspects of our product development cycle. This position works closely with other engineering and manufacturing team members to design PCBs for AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC converters and inverters using a variety of power topologies, thermal mitigations, and controls.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Create the layout for circuit boards using computer software

Develop digital or analog designs for circuits, computer chips, and other components

Use layout software to position components and create routes to define electrical connectivity

Prepare documents for supplier fabrication and assembly

Implement test plans to ensure that PCBs meet industry standards and avoid component failure

Make revisions based on customer and engineer specifications

Work with engineers to create drawings and support manufacturing and engineering teams

Develop PCB design guidelines for PCB designers and manufacturers

Develop detailed specifications for the manufacturing process

You will work on a variety of boards, including multi-layer, hi-power, and standard boards.

Some say that most companies require a 4-year engineering degree for PCB design jobs. However, others say that skilled PCB designers can learn the job through courses and online certifications.

Understand and follow assorted industry design standards to ensure product success

Support design reviews with contributions to improve design, cut costs, improve speed, and ensure accuracy of project

Effectively use a variety of software, tools, and equipment for design and analysis

Troubleshoot designs and prototypes to provide failure analysis and resolutions

Manage/control documentation in a timely, efficient manner following internal ISO9001:2015 / AS9100:2016 procedures

Support all of the above in an organized, efficient, and safe manner with clear communications in oral, written, and non-verbal forms

Skills

Good understanding of electronic components

Strong knowledge of PCBs

Experience working with schematic, CAD and PCB design software such as PCAD, Altium, SolidWorks, AutoCAD

Experience with EMI reduction, high power (current and thermal transfer) and analog layouts

Assuring layouts conform to requirements of IPC

Clear understanding of PCB layer stack up

Knowledge of common PCB design rules

Experience working with and designing engineering drawings

Ability to maintain and create libraries

Proficient in MS Office suite

Proficient in BOM structures

Experience in Configuration Management

Strong learning drive

Strong communication skills

Ability to utilize the right tools at the right time

Required Education & Experience

2-year technical degree or 5-7 years in electrical industry

5-years layout work history

Preferred:

Experience with military electronics standards (MIL-STD-1275, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, etc.) or equivalent automotive standards
