Product Designer, Government Job at For People in Arlington

For People, Arlington, VA, United States

Job Description

Job Description

For People improves digital services for disadvantaged and vulnerable populations by embedding directly in government agencies. We modernize software, systems, and platforms to ensure they better serve the people who need them the most. We're a fully remote, human-centered team that prioritizes positive work-life balance and the well-being of our people.

Your Impact

As a Senior Product Designer at For People, you will play a critical role in modernizing the Medicaid Drug Program (MDP) product suite for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). MDP is vital for improving access to affordable medications for millions of Medicaid beneficiaries. Your work will empower CMS to better negotiate drug prices, increase compliance, and promote transparency, directly impacting how low-income individuals and families access affordable medications.

In this role, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to design intuitive, user-friendly interfaces that meet the needs of diverse users such as state officials, drug manufacturers, and CMS administrators. You will bring your design expertise, creativity, and empathy to create solutions that align user needs with business goals, ultimately improving the efficiency and usability of the MDP platform. Your designs will help ensure that critical data systems support effective decision-making and streamline the processes that support affordable prescriptions for Medicaid recipients

Our Culture

For People is a team of humans. We place a significant amount of emphasis on positive work-life balance, setting healthy expectations, and making sure our loved ones are taken care of first. That means picking a child up from school during the day or going for a mid-day walk is okay!

Our entire team is remote across the United States, from the West Coast to the East Coast. There will never be a return-to-office, as we have none!

Your Opportunities

On the MDP project, you will work closely with product, engineering, and research teams to:

  • Lead the design of user-centered interfaces for complex data systems with multiple user roles, improving usability, accessibility, and overall user experience
  • Translate user research and feedback into thoughtful, modern designs that address user needs and align with business and policy objectives
  • Collaborate with product managers and engineers to ensure design feasibility, scalability, and seamless integration of new features into the MDP system
  • Build and iterate on wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that reflect stakeholder requirements and CMS regulations
  • Conduct usability testing and synthesize findings into actionable design improvements, ensuring product enhancements are data-driven and informed by real-world user feedback
  • Foster a collaborative design process by facilitating design workshops, journey mapping, and working sessions to align cross-functional teams on user experience goals
  • Ensure consistency across the platform by developing and maintaining design systems that align with CMS and government standards
  • Work with the research team to ensure that designs are informed by both quantitative data and qualitative insights, and that they contribute to long-term product vision and strategy
  • Advocate for accessibility and usability best practices, ensuring that designs meet federal accessibility requirements and serve the diverse population of users
You Bring
  • A humble and caring attitude
  • 5+ years of experience in product design for complex, large-scale digital products or services, preferably in the government sector or regulated industries
  • Proven expertise in designing for systems with multiple user roles, translating complex workflows into intuitive, user-friendly interfaces
  • Strong proficiency in design tools like Figma, Sketch, Figjam, and other collaborative design platforms
  • Deep understanding of user-centered design principles, interaction design, information architecture, and responsive design
  • Experience in usability testing and working with user researchers to validate design decisions and refine solutions based on user feedback
  • Excellent communication skills to convey design rationale to diverse stakeholders, including technical and non-technical teams
  • Collaborative mindset and experience working in agile teams alongside product managers, engineers, and UX researchers
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and experience in designing inclusive experiences for diverse populations
  • Experience developing and maintaining design systems that promote consistency and scalability across large digital platforms
  • The ability to balance user needs with business objectives, ensuring that designs are both effective and feasible within constraints
