Job Title: Line Design Engineer 3
Job Description
The Line Design Engineer 3 position requires 7-10 years of related experience and an accredited bachelor's degree or professional engineer license. The role involves applying engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications to design and construct high-voltage transmission lines (HVTL). Responsibilities include supporting estimate preparation, developing design options, and preparing construction specifications. Additionally, the engineer will provide guidance, oversight, and quality assurance reviews for approved contractors developing design solutions, cost estimates, and construction packages for outsourced line design jobs.
Responsibilities
This is a hybrid position with 3 days a week in the office and the remainder working from home. The new office is currently under renovation at Forest Park, and employees will work from home for about a month. Internal team meetings are held on Tuesdays. The role involves spending 20% of time in the field and 80% in the office. Office work includes communicating via email and phone, performing calculations, drafting reports, and creating and reviewing plans. The work week consists of forty hours per week with overtime as needed.

Responsibilities
- Create a safe work environment by prioritizing safety.
- Understand the processes used for HVTL planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance.
- Understand the functions and activities of various internal departments involved in HVTL design, construction, and maintenance.
- Apply transmission line design practices and work processes.
- Use all software applications related to HVTL design.
- Understand NESC and company-specific design standards.
- Support the development of design standards and criteria for the system.
- Assist construction and maintenance teams during daily operations and emergency restoration of failed equipment.
- Provide quality assurance reviews for PLS-CADD line models and job construction packages.
- Estimate material needs for transmission projects.
- Transmit construction packages and support specifications.
- Significant engineering knowledge

- Basic TLD software knowledge

- Ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff, and vendors
- Design, transmission, and transmission line knowledge
- Civil engineering and structural steel expertise
- PLS-CADD, Autocad, mechanical, and electrical design skills
- Experience with mechanical design
- Familiarity with DOT regulations
- Proficiency in Autocad, SolidWorks, and Inventor with 10-15 years of experience
- Preferably an associate degree
