HDR is currently in need of a Water Resources Designer/EIT to work as a member of our Transportation Business Group in our Maryland (Fulton) or Virginia (Vienna, Roanoke, Glen Allen, Virginia Beach) offices. This individual will be expected to perform stormwater and hydrologic investigations and designs for highway/transit projects within the group. This position may require occasional field site visits and inspections.

In the role of Water Resources Designer/EIT, we'll count on you to:

  • Assist and work independently in Hydrologic and Hydraulic Assessment including data collection and preliminary stormwater modeling.
  • Prepare design calculations and technical reports related to drainage area development, storm system design, and water quality practices
  • Work as a member of a design team in preparation of roadway and highway water resources design using local (state, county or city) or FHWA standards: culverts, bridges, channels, storm systems, water quality practices and additional roadway drainage elements
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams in the preparation of stormwater management details, drainage plans, erosion & sediment control layouts, specifications and estimates for projects of various sizes and complexity
  • Assist in the production of the following construction plans: Drainage Plans and Profiles, Roadway Plans, Utility Plans, Temporary Erosion Control Plans, Site Preparation Plans and Water Quality details
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualification
  • EIT or ability to obtain. Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of "Water Resources Designer" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
  • Experience with Microstation Version 8/Civil 3D
  • Preference given to local candidates
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite, standard CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, and hydraulic modeling software
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and with a project team to completion of task
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
