Development Manager, Full Frame Documentary Film Festival

Job Description

Occupation Summary:

Reporting to the Festival Co-Director of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, the Development Manager is a member of the Full Frame Development Team and will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program that supports the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and its year-round programming. In collaboration with the Festival Co-Director, the Development Manager will identify, cultivate, and solicit individuals, foundations, corporations, and government funders to secure both cash and in-kind support, with an expected cash revenue that exceeds $1 million annually. This position will be responsible for the management and administration of the various festival related giving programs, including the launch of a membership program. The Development Manager will be an essential member of the Full Frame team, participating in all aspects of the planning and implementation of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival.

Work Performed:

Annual Giving (25%)
  • Build and sustain relationships with current, new, and potential grant-giving organizations, members, and individual donors, as well as other governmental and community partners.
  • Responsible for individual donor campaigns including membership program and event planning, benefits administration (includes Festival ticket and pass reservation), membership renewals, and special appeals (holiday and year-end fundraising campaigns).
  • In collaboration with the Festival Co-Director and Duke's Campus Grants Management Team, be responsible for grant proposal development, writing, submission, and reporting, plus the coordination and the creation of budgets for grant submissions.
  • Oversee and provide annual fundraising recommendations for annual giving efforts; record and accurately report on actual costs and evaluate the use of funds within assigned programs and activities.
Sponsorship Program (25%)
  • Be responsible for the oversight and coordination of the sponsorship program and sponsor relationships, including the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of past, current, and potential sponsors.
  • Working closely with the entire Full Frame team, ensure that current and potential sponsorships meet festival needs and fall within festival parameters.
  • Responsible for the tracking and fulfillment of sponsorship agreements and commitments, including ads, logo collection and placements, name recognition, other benefits associated with giving levels.
Membership Administration and Fulfillment (20%)
  • Oversee the management of all membership programs including but limited to; individual donors and members, Festival Sponsors, and Gift-in Kind supporters. Ensure that all members receive appropriate benefits per agreements and any special considerations or commitments.
  • Serve as the primary point person and concierge for sponsors and members at the Festival and other Full Frame events.
  • Assist in the development of membership and individual giving marketing or promotional content used for publications, collateral, newsletters, or any online platforms.
Tracking & Reporting (15%)
  • Utilize Duke's donor management software to track all moves and solicitations to enable analysis, evaluation, and reporting on the annual giving program.
  • Establish and maintain tools and processes to assist in the analyses, evaluation, and reporting of annual sponsorship program.
  • Oversee and actively collaborate on the development and maintenance of a comprehensive annual Full Frame fundraising program, that includes individual, sponsorships, grant deadlines, and government support.
  • Ensure that all membership and sponsorship benefits are properly tracked and recognized appropriately in Duke's system of record and across Full Frame communications and programs.
  • Develop and present reports on all aspects of development activities.
Prospect Management and Development Management (15%)
  • In accordance with Duke's prospect management policies, develop and maintain relationships with Full Frame supporters via telephone, email, online platforms, and travel, in order to qualify interest, cultivate awareness, secure support, and provide stewardship.
  • Support efforts to grow and enrich Full Frame's prospect pipeline, actively meeting and pitching to approximately 50 prospective sponsors and donors, while stewarding and maintaining contact with established supporters.
  • Assist in the identification, cultivation, and transition of potential major gift supporters, in partnership with Duke Alumni Engagement and Development colleagues.
  • Coordinate donor strategies and efforts with the Duke development team.


Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required. Three years of experience in fundraising, sales and promotions, or a related field in order to acquire skills necessary to administer, coordinate and/or participate in general fundraising activities and proposal development. Candidates should possess a demonstrated knowledge of and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. Familiarity with and appreciation of Duke University, arts organization, film festivals, documentary film, or higher education fundraising preferred.

Candidates must demonstrate successful project management experience, including meeting numerous deadlines and objectives and managing multiple concurrent projects with limited resources. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Experience and comfort in interacting with prospects from a variety of different communities, class years, and professional backgrounds. Required technical skills include proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel as well as a willingness and ability to master Access and SAP-based database tools.

Must have a strong work ethic and be able to work in a fast-paced, results-oriented team environment. Ability to work evenings and weekends, and travel as needed. Creativity, adaptability, strong communication and writing skills, diplomacy, tact, and sense of humor needed to be successful in this job.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires the skills and knowledge normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Experience

3 years of progressive fundraising/customer relations/marketing or sales and promotions experience in team environment. Proven verbal and written communication skills and computer experience with Windows environment or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Occasional travel required.
