ECS is seeking a Communications Specialist (Graphic Designer) to work in our Bethesda, MD office
ECS is searching for a Communications Specialist with a strong graphic design background to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating captivating designs for various projects, both digital and print. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on a range of exciting projects and collaborate with other talented professionals. Though the position is currently remote due to COVID-19, there may be a requirement for in-person attendance in the future. Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
- Creating print and multimedia presentations as requested, which involves using creative processes and tools to generate graphics and displays, some of which may be scientific and fit the project's requirements.
- Transforming spoken or written descriptions of items, processes, issues, or events into visual representations without the benefit of existing pictures, models, or diagrams.
- Producing creative graphic design work to convey intended messages or have a desired effect on intended audiences through illustrations, websites, posters for meetings, and signage.
- Coordinating with the Program Manager in developing original designs, concepts, or visual styles following NIH-approved branding guidelines for outreach activities, social media, publications, or presentation materials.
- Using photography and video capture; imagery, graphic, and video editing software; publication design and layout; and digital and social media design.
- Using Adobe Creative Suite and its programs, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
- Designing and developing a variety of 508 compliant promotional materials.
- Receiving requests for publicity from managers, marketing manager, and publicists in draft form and using own judgment to determine appropriate graphics, text, and layout.
- Providing graphic support to all Workshop Support activities.
- Designing artwork to appeal to a specific target audience for Scientific and Medical events.
- Making recommendations to activity managers on the design of effective advertising and publicity materials.
- Ensuring the accuracy of all advertising and publicity materials.
- Prioritizing work requests and maintaining records of services provided to customers.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
- Must have reasonable experience which provides a general knowledge of marketing/advertising principles and practices.
- Must have experience as a commercial or government artist or illustrator, which demonstrates the ability to design, and layout copy and artwork using computer-based desktop publishing and graphic design computer programs.
- Knowledge and experience of the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator) is required.
- Experience in other layout programs may be acceptable.
- Knowledge and experience of Federal 508 compliance is highly desirable.
- Knowledge and experience of Wordpress, CSS & HTML is highly desirable.
- Must have ability to read, write and speak English.
- Must possess skill in dealing with customers and public.
