The primary focus of the Library Assistant 2 is providing reference service to Idaho State Archives (ISA) patrons, state agencies and Idaho State Historical Society (ISHS) staff members. The Library Assistant 2 is responsible for staffing the Reference Desk and Reading Room. The incumbent will work with an Archivist in adopting a user-centered approach to continually improve the research center in ways that will make conducting historical research increasingly more accessible and user-friendly. The Library Assistant 2 works Tuesday through Saturday Responsibilities + Staff the Merle Wells Research Center reference desk from 11:00am to 4:00pm Tuesday through Saturday. + May staff the Reading Room as needed. + Enforce Reading Room policies and procedures for handling archival collections according to archival best practices. + Provides reference support with digitizing, scanning and reproducing historical photographs for archives customers. + Supports patron services through the point-of-sale system according to the current board-approved fee schedule. + Performs basic library maintenance duties such as reshelving, shelf-reading, cataloging and indexing. + May serve on ISHS committees and projects as appropriate to the position. + Provide support to agency public programs and outreach efforts as assigned. + Some weekend and/or evening hours will be scheduled. + Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Good knowledge of: Current library organization, terminology and functions-Typically this is met by completion of two college-level courses in library science or approximately one year library experience at the paraprofessional level. Education or experience must be within the last ten years. Some knowledge of: Supervisory practices-Typically gained by at least one year of professional experience with direct responsibility for hiring employees, assigning and reviewing the work of others, completing performance evaluations, and participating in problem solving procedures. Experience: Using and applying bibliographic and other library information sources, in printed and computerized format-Typically this is met by approximately one year of work experience using and applying bibliographic and other library information sources such as directories, periodical indexes, subject bibliographies, union lists, book in print, WLN, OCLC, etc. Include in your response the sources and the departments such as acquisitions, cataloging, serials, reference, etc. Using a bibliographic utility or in-house automated library system to perform acquisitions, cataloging or serials work- Typically this is met by approximately one year of work experience using a bibliographic utility such as WLN or OCLC or an in-house system preforming acquisitions, cataloging or serials. It is also acceptable to have experience with inter-library loans or reference. Compiling and analyzing information and writing a summary in a work setting - Typically this is met by researching and gathering information, analyzing the information and summarizing it in a procedure manual or a statistical or narrative report. report. Include in your response what information you complied and type of report you completed I.e. statistical, narrative, procedural manual etc. Using computer applications software-Typically gained by at least six (6) months of full-time experience accessing data using personal computer software such as Word, Word Perfect, Lotus, Excel, Access, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc. Abilities + To interact professionally and effectively with a wide variety of personalities within and outside the agency. + Deliver high quantity, error-free work products in a complex environment with competing priorities. + Manage and prioritize numerous concurrent projects. + Benchmark and adapt readily to new practices. + Interact professionally and effectively with a wide variety of personalities within and outside the agency. + Deliver good customer service and communicate clearly with the public and staff.
