Description

Under supervision, performs a variety of customer service and clerical tasks; performs tasks in connection with checking out or checking in library materials, issuing library cards, shelving books and filing of library materials. Exercises no supervision.

Examples of Duties

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Performs routine circulation tasks required to serve the public including checking the status of patron accounts; collecting fines and fees; issuing new or replacement library cards; checking in and out library materials;
  • Sorts books, publications, and other items according to established procedures and returns them to shelves or designated areas;
  • Assists patrons with material searches and the use of library equipment;
  • Answers general inquiries; routes to appropriate staff if further assistance is needed;
  • Assists in ordering supplies and materials and receiving orders;
  • Performs clerical activities such as filing, typing, and data entry;
  • Identifies or performs minor repairs on damaged library materials;
  • Processes new books;
  • Assists with performing the tasks necessary for opening/closing the library; and
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

Experience:
  • One year of clerical experience including some use of computers, interacting with the general public, and providing customer service.
  • Library experience is highly desirable.
Education:
  • Equivalent to a high school diploma.
Special Requirements:
Essential functions and duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
  • Ability to work in a standard library environment;
  • Must be able to communicate with others and to exchange information accurately;
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist; push and pull;
  • Ability to lift and /or move up to 40 pounds; and
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
