The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state. The Music Minister conducts music performance groups for regular and special religious services as well as facility events and community performances. Groups include hand bells, vocal choir, sign choir, percussion/band. The ability to perform music with at least one portable instrument is required to lead worship in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings. The Music Minister plans, organizes, and holds annual musical events such as local music festivals or trips, awards ceremony, holiday musicals and pageants. Ability to serve as lay leader for a variety of religious beliefs. The Music Minister is also responsible to provide individual and group music therapy including assessment and ongoing sessions as well as assisting with active treatment options for individuals at the center. The position works regularly hours on the weekends as well as some weekdays. Essential Job Functions: Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Conducting musical groups Music Performance with at least 1 portable instrument Lay leadership Events Individual and group therapy Documentation Communication Audio visual and musical equipment operations Active treatment Operating state vehicle Knowledge Skills Abilities: Ability to provide musical performances Ability to conduct music groups Ability to plan, organize and hold events Ability to assess, plan and achieve music therapy goals for individuals and groups Ability to provide training and ministry to individuals and groups Ability to provide timely, thorough and complete documentation Ability to communicate with those who do not use words as well as others including family members Knowledge of Microsoft office suite including power point, excel and publisher and to operate audio visual equipment. Registration or Licensure Requirements: Music Therapist board certified or obtain with 1 year. Must possess valid Texas driver's license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driver's license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy. Initial Selection Criteria: 1.Board Certified Music Therapist preferred 2. Experience working with people with Intellectual Disabilities 3. Music performance experience 4.
