The VNA is seeking a full time Music Therapist to provide music therapy group and individual sessions to clients in need in Indian River County. The music therapist supports the business develpment activities of the organization. Music therapist will provide music therapy services via collaborations with various community organizations with a focus on mental health and wellbeing. Deliver high customer service orientation and effective written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate musical skills with competence and include therapeutic use of music and recreational instruments. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of music therapy research and use best practices in clinical interventions Recognize patient/group strengths and weaknesses as well as their support systems. Demonstrate the ability to assess, provide and interpret data and interpret responses to symptom management in treatment.
Shall be familiar with and practice the mission, vision and values of the VNA of the Treasure Coast. Practice core values in delivery of all duties. Must be able to demonstrate all essential duties to effectively perform the role.
- Implement, plan and complete the music therapy assessment with patients and families when referred in accordance with the interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Guide patients in the use of creative therapeutic activities for the purpose of improving or maintaining mental and physical functions and quality of life.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of music therapy services with the patient.
- Document all communication and services provided to hospice patients and families in the clinical record.
- Instruct other care team members including, when appropriate, hospice aides, volunteers and family members in the use of music to achieve individualized care plan goals.
- Provides in-services to staff, hospitals, nursing homes, and other related facilities as requested and determined appropriate by supervisor.
- Participate in special events and community programming when appropriate and allowable due to regular scheduled duties.
- Follow appropriate standards of practice as set forth by the American Music Therapy Association and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
- Follow and abide by the Music Therapy Board Certification Domains
- Educate and provide in-services to staff members and community members on the appropriate use of the music therapy program and encourages referrals from all clinical staff.
- Use music therapy to treat a variety of medical, psychological, emotional, spiritual and social needs of patients/families in an age-appropriate manner as well as being consistent with patient/family cultures, religions and values.
- Participate in job related meetings and contributes the music therapists perspective of the clinical needs of patients/families while educating team members about the use of music therapy in meeting care plan needs.
- Complete all other duties assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have a degree in Music therapy from a program approved by the American Music Therapy Association.
- Board Certified as a Music Therapist by the Certification Board for Music Therapy.
- Six months minimum clinical hospice experience
- Must have reliable automobile, valid driver's license and the minimum state required liability auto insurance.
- MS Office and computer proficient
