DescriptionJOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: Develops patient activity plans involving music or musical instruments to enhance patient assessment and development. Provides music instruction and monitors patient behavior and progress. To periodically and appropriately evaluate patient progress and response to treatment for the age population served, as defined in the department's scope of service.PERFORMANCE CRITERIA CRITERIA A: Everyday Excellence Values - Employee demonstrates Everyday Excellence values in the day-to-day performance of their job. JOB FUNCTIONS ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to: 1. Completes patient assessments and treatments.PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:•Assesses patient, plans and implements treatment following department protocol and meeting department standards of care; periodically evaluates patient's progress toward goals and documents patient related assessments and treatments.•Plans and implements treatment programs based on assessment results, discharge goals, and interdisciplinary team patient goals.•Provides patient and family teaching, including specific recreational interests and activities.•Adapts environment to facilitate patient's progress.•Organizes and implements regular group activities to facilitate social integration & leisure time activities. 2. Documents care providedPERFORMANCE STANDARDS:•Documents patient records, billing procedures, and productivity management, as required, adhering to department documentation standards for patient care. 3. Promotes team approach PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:•Works cooperatively with team members to assure a comprehensive interdisciplinary patient program and defined discharge goals, participating in interdisciplinary team conferences, patient planning, patient related conferences and meetings for patients.•Assesses and implements discharge planning activities and makes appropriate recommendations regarding discharge needs. 4. Promotes education and participates in department tasks. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:•Provides staff training to promote patient progress.•Attends continuing education for licensure requirements and keeps abreast of current/new treatment approaches and/or equipment.•Attends mandatory meetings, functions in multiple clinical areas and works at multiple location sites as needed.•Participates in department management tasks; supervises & trains Recreational Therapy students and provides in-services and training for volunteers & other hospital staff.•Offers suggestions for process improvement; recommends to the supervisor/manager equipment and/or supplies that may enhance Recreational Therapy Program. 5. Performs other duties and special projects as required. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:•Completes assigned projects by due date. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSOne year experience in medical / psychiatric setting. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSMaster's degree in health-related field preferred. SPECIAL SKILL, LICENSE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTSActive Music Therapist - Board Certification (MT-BC) granted by the Certification Board for Music Therapist (CBMT). HIPAA REQUIREMENTS:Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Medical records without limitation both paper and electronic, patient demographics, lab and radiology results, patient information related to surgery or appointment schedules, medical records related to quality/data, patient financial information, patient related complaints, information related to patient location, and/or religious beliefs. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps and linen, PPE, exposure control plan, hand washing, patient identification, receives orders for patients for patient age groups adolescent through late adult/elderly, transporting patients, and monitoring clinical alarms.
