Posting Details Position Overview Life 97.9, KFNW, a Northwestern Media station in Fargo, ND, is looking for a focused Program Director and on-air talent. As Program Director, you would fill the vital role of shaping the on-air content of Life 97.9 as well as impacting our listening audience with engaging on-air programming. Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assist the station manager to develop, refine, and maintain the Life 97.9 programming strategy to ensure appeal to the station’s target audience and remain competitive within the Fargo Moorhead market. Direct Life 97.9’s music by selecting music and adding format appropriate music; utilize research that helps structure music rotations to meet audience expectations. Produce daily music logs. Manage effective relationships with music labels. Monitor and evaluate day-to-day aspects of Life 97.9 Operations. Communicate regularly with the Station Manager regarding actions, observations, problems and suggestions. Oversee and develop the listener experience, including music, content, and imaging of Life 97.9. Recruit, oversee and develop all air talent to effectively create strong connections with listeners and create content that is relevant and meaningful to the station’s target listener, both on-air and off-air through digital platforms (social media, web, etc.). Frequently listen to and conduct air check sessions with on-air talent. Learn and maintain operational aspects of RCS automation systems including Zetta, Zetta2GO, G-Selector, and Aquira Traffic Software. Be point person for emergency access to RCS and/or other critical computer systems. Work with Creative Service Director to create and develop imaging that fits the station’s strategic purpose. Partner with the Station Manager and Listener Engagement Director to determine viable initiatives, strategic relationships with other organizations and plan digital (web, social media, etc.) content. Host a daily Live Morning show Monday through Friday, providing compelling content for the target demographic within station format guidelines. Daily preparation time is required. Provide voice tracking for 1 weekend shift. What will it take to succeed in this position? Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent directly related work experience required. Previous related radio experience a minimum of three years required. Continually nurture a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; serve as a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintain a kind, Christ-like attitude in dealing with and ministering to people within and outside of Northwestern; and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, doctrinal statement, and Declaration of Christian Community. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to interact with a variety of individuals in a professional, kind, and tactful manner. Strong on-air personality skills with ability to share spiritual truths. Excellent public speaking skills. Ability to work independently without close supervision. Ability to prioritize tasks, completing accurately and by predetermined deadlines. Ability to respond in a professional manner in time sensitive situations. Ability to maintain a flexible schedule which includes some evenings and weekends as needed for events. Ability to host events and represent the station in a variety of settings. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license. Basic to intermediate computer proficiency. Knowledge and understanding of FCC rules and regulations as it pertains to broadcast stations. Knowledge and understanding of legal and technical aspects of broadcasting. Ability to pass a background check upon hire and periodically throughout the course of employment.
