Utility Worker - PR
General Statement of Job
Under regular supervision, performs routine maintenance and repair tasks in City facilities as necessary to ensure a safe, attractive, and functional environment for employees and the general public.
Essential Functions:
Performs various tasks involved in the maintenance and repair of the City-owned facilities to ensure a safe, attractive and functional environment for employees and the general public.
Operates a vehicle, computer, power tools and hand tools.
Inspects vehicles and/or equipment for proper operation.
Maintains accurate and complete records of work performed daily.
Maintains assigned tools and equipment.
Sets up safety cones and flags for traffic control around job sites.
Maintains City property which includes mowing, edging, and trimming.
Removes litter and debris from City rights-of-ways.
Removes weeds and applies mulch to landscaped areas.
Trims and plants flowers, ornamentals and trees within medians and other landscaped areas.
Cleans City-owned property including pressure washing sidewalks, privacy walls and other items within City rights-of-ways.
Installs and repairs irrigation systems.
Irrigation experience installation and repairs preferred
Landscape maintenance equipment experience preferred
May perform the following:
Performs general carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical maintenance and repair work as directed.
Performs concrete forming/finishing, asphalt repairs and tree trimming as needed.
Assists with general maintenance and repair of catch basins, pipe, culverts, etc. as needed.
Assists with herbicide application and vacuum truck operation.
Repairs curbs, sidewalks, and any other work as needed.
Removes trees, overgrown vegetation, debris, etc. from ditches that may impede the flow of storm water.
Assist mechanics and other technical staff in testing, cleaning, and repairing operating systems.
Move equipment and furniture around building.
Repairs handrails and guardrails.
Performs all work in accordance with City policies, procedures, codes and standards of quality and safety. Prepares daily activity reports, maintenance reports.
Minimum Education and Training
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess and maintain a valid state of Florida driver's license. Must possess or obtain the most current FEMA 100, 200, and 700 Incident Command System certifications within 6 months of appointment to the job.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Skill Requirements: Has knowledge of the methods, procedures, and policies of the City as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Utility Worker. Has the ability to comprehend, interpret and apply regulations, procedures, and related information.
Has knowledge and skills in the areas of electrical, plumbing and mechanic repair and maintenance, general carpentry, and construction. Has knowledge of the standard tools, materials, and practices of the industry. Has skill in the care and use of required tools and equipment. Deep knowledge of basic preventative and general maintenance activities. Ability to recognize hazards and take measures to avoid them. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with technical teams. Strong ability to follow oral and written instructions properly.
Is able to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and systems. Has knowledge of basic mathematics. Has skill in the use of computers for records preparation. Is able to prepare simple records and reports. Is able to read and interpret a variety of materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Is able to analyze problems that arise on the job and prepare related recommendations. Is able to use independent judgment in performing routine tasks. Is able to provide assistance to various departments, supervisors, co-workers and the general public as needed. Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency.
Knows how to perform duties in a courteous manner and communicate effectively with a variety of persons as prescribed. Is capable of working under stressful conditions as required. Knows how to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including a vehicle, computer, hand and power tools, etc. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, lift, carry and perform manual tasks. Ability to lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:
Ability physically to frequently work during intense or inclement weather conditions. Has knowledge of applicable occupational hazards and safety precautions. Is able to work in uncomfortable physical conditions, including exposure to excessive heat or cold, wetness, humidity, odors, smoke, toxic agents, noise, vibrations, dusts, pollen, machinery hazards, electric currents, etc.
