Position Summary:

MAG Aerospace is seeking a Technical Writer to provide support for the production, modification and fielding of systems & equipment concerning the PdM Network Modernization (NetMod) Tactical Network of the Program Executive Office for Command Control and Communications-Tactical (PEO C3T).

This is a full time / full benefits position working within a MAG facility located in Augusta, GA.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Support Subject Matter Experts with standardizing grammar and formatting for Military Standard compliance on documents describing deployment, installation, configuration, testing, and upgrade of communications equipment and software for users in the field.
  • Image development/revision using Microsoft Paint to Adobe Illustrator.
  • Presentation development/revision using Microsoft PowerPoint and generation/revision of pdf documents using Acrobat DC.
  • Technical Writing: The task of technical writing requires research, interviewing, writing original content, and, in some cases, a working knowledge of the subject.
    • The TW utilizes layout, illustration, word processing applications, network applications, and reproduction to achieve maximum effectiveness in documents.
    • The TW estimates material costs and prepares schedules for documents, based on experience acquiring and preparing data, and writing, editing, and producing documents.
    • This activity involves information and technical knowledge in the use and forecast of word processing industry developments for improved document processing and control.
  • Technical Editing: The technical editing process is an in?depth editorial effort, which requires reviewing a document for all the following:
    • Technical Content verifies Technical Document (TD) for technical accuracy and renders information into words that the intended or targeted audience will understand. Rewrites text as necessary to condense, consolidate, and clarify verbiage.
    • Language Style reviews the quality of language in a document, checking fluency, parallelism, and level of writing.
    • Substance checks for rational paragraphing, format, content coherence, and comprehensiveness of tables and figures to eliminate contradictions and inconsistencies.
  • Format Editing: Format editing requires reviewing a document for all the following:
    • Conformance ensures adherence to applicable specifications or style/format guidelines (e.g., cited Government procuring agency style guide, standard, or specification). Normally, higher?quality documents are required to conform to AAI identity and Best Commercial Standards.
    • Integrity ensures proper agreement among all parts of the document. Thus, all tables and figures that are referenced in text are verified to exist, follow in proper order, and have unique and meaningful titles; a consistent numbering system (where applicable) is used for all pages, paragraphs, tables, and illustrations. Ensures that all internal references are correct.
    • Layout ensures that all pages are of uniform dimension and margins. Ensures that text, tables, and illustrations are legible and presented in a logical format that enhances understanding and comprehension.
  • Proofreading: Responsible for the proofreading of all text, tabular, and illustration pages, checking for errors and making the necessary corrections. All documents produced by the Team comply with the following proofreading guidelines:
    • The initial typing of a new document requires 100-percent proofreading.
    • In subsequent review cycles, changes or updates from contributors require 100?percent proofreading of altered areas and scanning each affected page to ensure that no other areas have been inadvertently changed or misprinted.
    • In cases where computer malfunction is suspected, a 100-percent proofreading of all pages is necessary to guarantee that content and/or format throughout the TD has not been changed or lost.


Requirements:

Experience:

  • 5+ years working DOD/Army network
  • Experience with developing and editing large documents in Microsoft Word using styles, appendixes, figure and table captions, and references very important.
  • Experience in Arbortext with Styler in coordination with a Military Standard DTD also important. Using the xml files developed to function in the Army Web app IADS4 is helpful.
  • Experience in any word processing software working with documents 300 to 600 pages, any xml editor software in conjunction with a dtd, and in any image editor is essential.
  • Must be able to adapt to a flexible schedule/agenda and be a team player with a positive attitude in spite of the circumstances.
  • Experience with word processing software, basic image revising, xml.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Proven experience and usage of:
  • Microsoft Word using styles, appendixes, figure and table captions, and references.
  • Arbortext with Styler in coordination with a Military Standard DTD (xml)
  • Army Web app IADS4 (xml)
  • Microsoft Paint to Adobe Illustrator to develop/revise figure images
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Acrobat DC

Education:

  • BA or BS degree

Certifications:

  • DOD IAT Level II (Sec+)

Clearance:

  • Must have an active SECRET security clearance

Desired Qualifications:

  • Military service
  • Familiar with Networking basics and devices
