BAE Systems is seeking a motivated Technical Writer-Editor/Illustrator who will work with a diverse team comprised of system, mechanical, and logistic engineers to create and maintain Commercial and Air Force (AF) Maintenance Commodity Technical Manuals (TO).
Responsibilities and Duties:
+ Derive information from released technical source material, interpret and present data in applicable format:
+ Writes, rewrites, and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, parts listing manuals, and related technical publications to communicate effectively, using Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) and/or Extensible Markup Language (XML) while adhering to military specifications and instructions to military customers.
+ Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing systems/software/mechanical engineers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, and engineering illustrations.
+ Prepares illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.
+ Create new and modify existing illustrations for use in technical publications using existing engineering CAD models.
+ Knowledge or some understanding of DoD industry practices:
+ AF Technical Order System (TO-00-5-1). Technical Manual Process Overview
+ Organizational Maintenance Manuals (MIL-STD-38784). General Format Instructions for intermediate level maintenance procedures in Chapter Format.
+ Maintenance Instructions, Work Package (WP) Format (MIL-DTL-87929). Instructions for maintenance formatted specifically for WP format.
+ Illustrated Parts Breakdown (IPB) Manuals (MIL-DTL-38807). Intermediate level indentured parts listing format instructions for ordering parts in the field.
+ Schedule ability to work a 9/80 schedule.
+ A hybrid on-site and remote schedule is available; 50% or more in office required.

Because of the need for intermittent in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform a portion of work onsite, this position will be considered hybrid. This means work will be conducted on location at a BAE Systems facility, 50% or more of the time, as well as remotely when applicable.

**Required Education, Experience, & Skills**
+ High School Diploma and 5 years relevant technical drafting/technical writing experience, or bachelors degree (Technical or professional Writing, English, or Communications) and 3 years relevant experience. (Masters (Technical or professional Writing, English, or Communications) degree and 2 years experience.
+ Experience in test station maintenance technical publication development and sustainment using applicable software, i.e.
+ SGML/XML publishing applications - Arbortext Editor/Publishing System or similar for structured authoring of military, specifically AF commodity Technical Manuals.
+ Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Viso, Access).
+ Familiarity with CAD: PTC Creo, Creo Illustrate or similar applications for Technical Illustration development.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance.
**Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills**
+ Familiarity with Air Force (or DoD) Technical Manuals.
+ Ability to interpret technical drawings/specifications.
+ Can conceptualize a 3D view into a static 2D image.
+ Experience with mechanical and electrical systems and sub-systems.
+ Ability to handle a variety of tasks in a team environment.
**Pay Information**
Full-Time Salary Range: $96470 - $164010
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
