THE ROLE
The Associate Director of Marketing for Silgan Dispensing plays a leadership role in driving profitable growth within our Home and Garden portfolio. The primary responsibility for the Marketing Director is to develop a clear strategy that defines where and how to win driving long term category attractiveness and competitive advantage. This role leads the global coordination and integration of category marketing and product line management to ensure short term profitable growth of existing products and long-term growth by identifying innovation opportunities. He/she also secures strategic investment as well as capacity investment, develops tools and marketing material and serves as a key internal resource to support the sales team in growing the segment.
The individual will engage regularly with internal and external resources, including Customers, Sales, Operations, R&D, and Finance. The role reports directly to the Vice President of Marketing, and will have two Product Line Managers as direct reports. He/she will be viewed as a key internal and external industry expert for the segment and related categories.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Thought Leadership: Develop and maintain an expert understanding of current and prospective market segments, trends, insights, packaging solutions, brands and consumer needs. Be the face of this expertise both internally and to customers.
Strategy Development: Own overall strategic responsibility for the product portfolio
Ensures profitability and growth of products in assigned categories
Identify adjacent markets and technology needs based on market insight
Develops forward looking segment and product/category business strategies
Customer Engagement: Work with Commercial teams to strengthen customer connections, sell the portfolio, define and execute the innovation agenda, and build long term strategic partnerships with key brand owners.
Value Proposition Creation: Leverage understanding of key trends, customer needs, technology, and Silgan capabilities to develop comprehensive product value propositions with clear consumer/customer benefits and compelling business rationale (for Silgan and the customer).
Pricing Strategy: Implement and review pricing strategy by relevance, region, customer type and product positioning.
Innovation Strategy: Build customer & consumer driven insights culture and internal cross-functional partnerships to create differentiated innovation solutions. Coordinate innovation initiatives of the segment.
Communication: Work with Marketing Communications to create best in class sales tools and promotion of Silgan Dispensing’s branding, products, values, and insights.
Leadership: Lead the Product Line Manager (PLM) role responsible for linking the commercial and manufacturing teams for existing products and platforms. The individual and his/her team member has responsibility for the following:
Support traditional innovation projects on existing products/platforms
Provide Sales with pricing and customization quotes
Ensure product remains market relevant, both in feature and price position
Conduct ongoing competitive benchmarking
Support technical teams to assess performance of competitive products
Manage the product life cycle, including investment and rationalization strategies
Lead training of Sales Team in understanding/articulating product performance

REQUIREMENTS

Strong business, financial and commercial acumen

Proven experience in leading a team
Effective communication and an ability to inspire, both internally and with customers
High integrity and an orientation towards teamwork
Experience in relevant consumer end markets (Home, Garden, Professional, Personal Care) or customers within those markets is strongly preferred
A bachelor’s degree or higher degree in marketing or other relevant field of study
Ten (10) years of experience in strategic marketing, business management, sales or other relevant experience
