Position summary:

At the Rainforest Alliance we are looking for a strategic, collaborative and globally minded fundraising and program development professional to develop compelling, technically-sound proposals reflecting Rainforest Alliance priorities under a 2030 strategic vision.

Working as part of an international fundraising team, the Manager, Program Design and Development, will be tasked with working across Rainforest Alliance departments to support program and project design and build funding proposals based on key programmatic priorities with implementation globally and in high-value geographies. This role will contribute to the further professionalization of the Rainforest Alliance’s bid development process and teams, to prepare for and engage in large and high-priority funding bids. In partnership with scientific and technical experts, the role will contribute to the development of standardized proposals for a variety of the world’s biggest funders of climate and agriculture programs.

This role will increase RA’s ability to respond to strategic calls for proposals and funding mechanisms as well as contribute to the development of RA priority Impact Programs for proactive donor engagement, bringing to life ideas that need further development. Together with external-facing relationship managers, the Manager will develop programs and proposals that anticipate and respond to donor interests while representing the Rainforest Alliance’s unique value proposition and meet organizational funding needs.

The position is instrumental in supporting the Rainforest Alliance in its work to continue implementing impact-driven programs in different parts of the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Capture and Pre-positioning
    • Partner with global program experts, technical, and regional leads to design replicable, scalable, and fundable Impact Programs.
    • Lead pre-proposal design, ideation, or co-creation activities with technical and cross functional teams, positioning Impact Programs for key funding opportunities.
    • Support the development and roll out of standardized program design frameworks across different countries and geographies.
    • Apply best practices for program design and implementation across RA Impact Programs.
    • Analyse new program ideas for alignment with RA’s organizational impact framework, ensuring all proposals are contributing to RA 2030 Strategic Vision.
  • Proposal Design and Development
    • Lead proposal design processes and the development and writing of complex and compelling concepts, proposals for institutional donors.
    • Collect detailed technical, contextual, geographic information and synthesize into clear narratives describing project and program ideas.
    • Serve as proposal reviewer, as required, on select additional proposals (review, edit proposal pieces and final text for technical quality, clarity, consistency, and responsiveness to donor/bid requirements).
  • Capacity Building
    • Contribute to professionalization of RA’s new business development tools and processes, i.e. create a Proposal Development Toolkit and accompanying Style Guide.
    • Produce and manage information on key learnings on business development processes by leading post proposal debriefings or other learning activities and incorporating learning into RA ways of working.
    • Build out and maintain IR’s compendiums of text copy and resources: high-quality proposal sections, selected technical topics, other documents as models of excellence in proposal writing, organization, and technical content.
    • Other IR-related tasks as assigned.


Experience
/ Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Demonstrated ability (5 years’) in public sector fundraising, with a consistent track record of securing six and seven figure + government grants;
  • Demonstrable experience working with relevant donors and/or knowledge of the interests, systems and processes of donors supporting climate, regenerative agriculture, market-based and nature-based solutions;
  • Knowledge of the work of the Rainforest Alliance (conservation; community development; forestry; agriculture; livelihoods) strongly preferred;
  • Experience with program design and monitoring and evaluation, ideally within an international development setting;
  • Ability to articulate complex programmatic material in a detailed manner both internally and externally, and to audiences with different levels of background in these areas;
  • Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, work environment – preferably within a global organization;
  • Experience working within Latin America, Africa or Asia-Pacific context a plus;
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with fluency in English;
  • Additional language skills in Spanish or French a significant plus;
  • Must be a strong writer that is detail oriented, resourceful, and able translate complex, technical information into persuasive donor proposals and reports;
  • High degree of organizational skill, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as be an effective team member;
  • High degree of skill in using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Ability to travel internationally if needed.


Job level: 3A

Salary: For USA based candidates only:

  • National Salary range (Excluding NY and DC) - $63,655- $90,906
  • New York Salary Range - $75,605- $108,007
  • Washington DC Salary Range - $73,180- $104,542
