Reports To: Editorial Services Officer
Department: External Affairs
Location: Washington, DC (10-20 hours per week)

How will you fight for an AIDS-free generation?
The External Affairs department promotes the work of EGPAF to a broad range of audiences. The Editorial Services team, within External Affairs, plays an important role in ensuring EGPAF's external-facing products align with our brand, writing guidelines, and global messaging.
The Editorial Services Intern will serve as a key resource in supporting the functions of the Editorial Services team. The primary responsibility of the intern will be to edit technical materials and prepare priority, public-facing products for external distribution and consumption. The Editorial Services team is integral to enhancing the quality and readability of EGPAF's technical products through meticulous editing and comprehensive review. These materials can include, but are not limited to, manuscripts that will be submitted to scientific journals, conference abstracts on global health research and programs, conference posters and presentations, technical briefs, program briefs, and issue briefs. The ideal candidate should have a passion for editing, an interest in writing and communications, and excellent attention to detail.

The expected pay for this position is $17.50 per hour in the Washington, DC Metro area. This position is non-exempt and paid hourly.

No two days are alike at EGPAF, but what can you expect in this role?
- Edit technical materials, ensuring they are error-free, clearly written, and in line with EGPAF's writing style guide. Provide both high-level feedback and line edits for authors.
- Support updating documents such as country fact sheets and content for country webpages.
- Work with the Editorial Services Officer and others to support the creation of new communications materials highlighting EGPAF's technical and programmatic work, as needed.
- Assist with staff training sessions on editorial guidelines, publications policies, and writing standards as needed.
- Develop an understanding of key priorities in the HIV global health field, and the priorities relevant to EGPAF's work.
- Other duties as assigned.
To be successful, you will have:
- Currently enrolled student with at least one year of school completed (this includes colleges, universities, and community colleges), OR graduated within the past year.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong skills in copyediting, editing, and revising various types of writing, with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse audiences and colleagues of all levels and locations around the world.
- A general interest in global health and health communications.
- Ability to learn and use collaboration and communication platforms (such as Microsoft Teams) and project management/database tools (such as Airtable or similar).
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and willingness to take on new challenges.
- Familiarity with global health issues.
- Experience with health communications and/or in writing and editing in the fields of science, global health, or public health
