Cleveland State University opened the 120,000 square foot state-of-the-art Student Recreation Center in August 2006. Cleveland State University is selected as one of America’s Best Colleges by US News & World Report by providing a comprehensive metropolitan university committed to a high-quality education to students with diverse backgrounds, experiences, interests and needs. Enrolling 17,000 students and located in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, the University offers 8 colleges with degrees in 200 undergraduate and graduate programs. Cleveland State University boasts an NCAA Division I athletics program and offers 200+ student clubs and organizations. With more than $500 million in new construction and building renovations there are 1,250 students living on-campus and 1,000 additional students living in the immediate area. Additionally, there are approximately 2,500 full and part-time faculty and staff employed by the University.
Position Overview:
Design and marketing, by nature, is a collaborative, creative and constructive environment. Therefore, the ideal candidate will have excellent communication and teamwork skills, a patient understanding and approach to his/her work, a knack for efficient and diverse multi-tasking, and a strong ability to work with constructive criticism.
Responsibilities
Job Description:Under the direction of the Marketing Coordinator, the Graduate Supervisor has the responsibility for helping to supervise day-to-day marketing operations, as well as assisting with developing plans and designs for marketing initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist with the oversight, training and supervision of staff hiring, scheduling, and supervision, including monitoring deadlines, providing guidance and direction to staff based in a solid understanding of the CSU Rec Center brand, and addressing disciplinary infractions in regards to the area and departmental guidelines.
- Assist with design, video, social media, and/or other marketing disciplines as skills and interest dictate.
- Work with Coordinator of Marketing & Advertising to develop multi-platform marketing campaigns and strategies.
- Assist the Coordinator of Marketing & Advertising with the annual budget to include preparation, forecasting, and monitoring of expense and revenue as it relates to area of responsibility.
- Create, develop and enforce administrative policies and procedures as it relates to Marketing & Advertising.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with other Marketing staff, as well as other department staff, effectively to increase efficiencies.
- Continual work to build understanding of the CSU Rec Center brand and uphold the standards and guidelines of our brand, as outlines in our style guide.
- Demonstrate and utilize strong and professional communication skills, including email and in-person correspondences.
Site Specific Responsibilities:
- Actively work to exemplify and train staff on Marketing expectations and risk management.
- Coordination and implementation (including distribution) of marketing materials within the Recreation Center, across the CSU campus, and also surrounding community area as needed.
- Program/Plan one special event each academic year.
- Serve on Special Event Sub-Committees as assigned.
- Take an active role in facility initiative(s) outside of the Marketing department (risk management, student development, etc.)
- Evening/weekend work responsibilities as needed.
- Other duties as assigned pertaining to the functions of the Marketing department.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Graphic Design, Advertising, Sports Administration, Exercise Science or Higher Education or closely related field.
- Acceptance into the College of Graduate Studies at Cleveland State University.
- Certification in ARC CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer (provided) or equivalent certification.
- Certification in ARC CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer Instructor (provided).
- One year of undergraduate experience in campus recreation and knowledge of basic practices in recreational sports.
- Leadership and supervisory abilities of undergraduate students and interns.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a professional team that collaborates effectively with colleagues.
- Ability to thrive in an environment that values entrepreneurial spirit, high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyles.
- 20-30 hours/week

- Some knowledge of HR theories and best practices in recruitment and staff development.
- Basic accounting knowledge; capability of understanding budgets.

- Proficiency with Adobe design software (Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver).
- Web design, web coding, and/or general web development.
- Photography and videography recording and editing experience.
