A Brief Overview
The Communications Manager is responsible for the day-to-day external and internal communication activities of the Wayne County Airport Authority (Detroit Metropolitan Airport and Willow Run Airport). The Communications Manager will represent the Airport Authority as a designated spokesperson and will be on call 24/7 regularly. The position also involves some employee communication duties. Theideal candidate is a strategic thinker who demonstrates a high level ofaccuracy, even under pressure, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

A Brief Overview
The Communications Manager is responsible for the day-to-day external and internal communication activities of the Wayne County Airport Authority (Detroit Metropolitan Airport and Willow Run Airport). The Communications Manager will represent the Airport Authority as a designated spokesperson and will be on call 24/7 regularly. The position also involves some employee communication duties. Annual Compensation Range ($USD): 95,000 - 111, 000
What you will do
- Serves as a spokesperson for the Airport Authority to the public and news media, as needed or assigned.
- Responds to the news media in a timely manner and maintains a positive relationship with news staff.
- Produces and distributes high-quality news releases, media advisories, speeches, backgrounders, video scripts, presentations, written correspondence, brochures, digital content and other communication materials for external and internal audiences.
- Develops social media content and strategies, monitors social media, as well as oversees management of social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X.
- Performs administrative duties such as preparing and distributing news clips, maintaining photo databases and managing media contact lists.
- Executes targeted communication plans for the organization which may include traditional, social and digital media, as well as advertising.
- Collaborates with Communications & External Affairs team members to organize internal and external events, and coordinate media involvement as appropriate.
- Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree with major course work in Communications, Journalism or a related field from an accredited college or university. * An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Five (5) or more years of progressive responsibility in the Communications/Journalism/Public Relations field, which includes development of written documents, professional-level experience with content creation, and management of communication across various social media and digital platforms.
- 2 or more years of experience serving as a designated media spokesperson.
- Proficient with Office Suite Software (Core - Email, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Presentation).
- Proficient with Graphics Arts/Image Editing software such as: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and other Creative Suite applications.
- Proficient with desktop publishing software.
- Valid Driver's License and a safe, acceptable driving record.
