Our Opportunity
GPJ is hiring a Technical Director to join our growing Live Production team!
You will act as overall technical expert, leader and manager of the technical production crew for the execution of major live shows and events.
This role is hybrid, requiring you to report on-site to one of the following office locations a minimum of 2 days/week: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Austin, Nashville, Detroit, Boston, or New York City.
Your Role
As the Technical Director, your role centers around being the on-site manager for major shows and events. You bring expertise in scenic, lighting, rigging, audio, and visual requirements, both in the pre-show and on-site phases. Beyond managing our event execution, you play a crucial role in determining the technical solutions for our shows, with a strong focus on developing and upholding GPJ production standards.
Collaborating closely with an Executive Producer and/or Producer, you take charge of on-site supervision for both union and non-union labor, while managing the technical production budgets and CAD Plans. Much of your time and energy is dedicated to owning and nurturing vendor execution of programs, and the RFQ process.
Your Impact
- You are CAD Proficient in Vectorworks or AutoCAD
- Rock star in Google Suites, with Advanced competency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint are also expected
- You understand on-site methodology and best practices for live events of all kinds
- Have the ability to read and interpret space plans
- You can demonstrate you have worked on large-scale events and have a proven track record of managing $3mm+ budgets
Experience & Education
- Minimum 5 years direct production management and/or technical production experience
Travel & Mobility
- Ability to travel 40%

Strong communication skills with each member of the team (GPJ, Client and Partners) in sharing information, advising but being decisive as required to ensure success. Strong advocate for a safe environment for attendees and staff ensuring each project has all required certifications and documentation.
Curiosity-Desire to discover, explore, learn and expand knowledge of digital, technical, theatrical and media elements to bring brands to life in the most effective way. Live production is one of the most powerful forms of communication in experience marketing and your role is to partner with the strategy, creative and account teams in bringing the best ideas forward and put the strategy into action.
Salary Range: $125k - $140k
Salary is dependent on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) experience, skills, and location.
