Position Description

U.S. Soccer is seeking an experienced social media expert to lead the Federation's social media team, telling the story of soccer in all forms across the soccer landscape. This includes highlighting the Federation's work in service to soccer, our members (referees, coaches, member orgs, etc.) and ultimately the best of us - our athletes, from our Senior National Teams to Extended National Teams.

The Director, Social Media will be responsible for U.S. Soccer's overarching and platform-specific strategies designed to deepen fan engagement, grow reach, increase relevancy and drive revenue.

In addition to storytelling, the Director of Social will develop and execute strategies to support the Federation's commercial efforts: growing Insiders, driving ticket sales, supporting kit launches, working with U.S. Soccer's partners, etc. Ideating a strategy to tell the story of match day, while integrating and supporting commercial efforts.

The Director, Social Media will also build adaptable and repeatable playbooks for international camps, tournaments and match days. Create a 365-social content engine designed to keep the engage soccer fans year-round with an audience-led, data-driven approach to maximize reach, relevancy and revenue.

We are seeking someone relationship driven with the ability to collaborate, communicate and build trust with a wide array of internal and external stakeholders.

Travel to team events, camps and games will be required.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years experience managing social media content.
  • Used to performing and exceling in fast-paced environments, while under pressure.
  • A self-starter capable of taking initiative and leading a team.
  • An audience-led strategist, using data to develop best practices.
  • Ability to balance short-term deliverables with long-term projects in concurrent workstreams.
  • Capable of working with a large number of stakeholders.
  • Background or experience working for a media/news company is helpful.
  • Established connections/relationships with representatives at social media platforms.
  • Ability to generate exceptional audience engagement through multiple formats and mediums and distribution channels.
  • Able and willing to travel, in addition to working non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends as needed
  • When not traveling, able to work out of U.S. Soccer's future headquarters in Atlanta, GA
  • Discretion. This roll will be privy to confidential information.

Desired Qualifications
  • Spanish speaking is a plus.
  • Knowledge of online marketing channels and SEO.
  • Familiarity with publishing and updating high-traffic websites in CMS.
  • Excellent writing ability and mastery of AP style and soccer terminology
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere)
