Leidos is seeking a self-motivated team member to provide Technical Writing expertise to a large enterprise IT contract for the DOD. This individual will work in a team environment to ensure mission needs are met and ensure functionality of capabilities and services for customers. This individual should be detail oriented in order to capture customer inquiries appropriately. The Technical Writer will operate as a member of the Project Management Office (PMO).

The Technical Writer will also provide surge support to the program's ISSO team. ISSO's are relied upon for reviewing and maintaining existing Authority to Operate (ATO) documentation throughout the sustainment portion of the system lifecycle. The ISSO's assist with tracking, documenting, and remediating vulnerabilities identified by the customer's Cyber
Security division and direct remediation efforts for system administrator staff, provide status updates to government
and program leadership, and update relevant RMF packages as required.

Successful candidates must possess the following skills:
  • Draft, expand, refine, and edit technical concepts or solutions into easy-to-read, comprehensive, compliant, signature-ready, and compelling documents tailored for audiences ranging from entry-level technical to executive level Responsible for creating and writing various types of user documents, including how-to guides, references, manuals, cheat sheets, or instructions
  • Explain scientific and technical ideas in simple language
  • Provide professional expertise in technical writing and editing
  • Provide field, data definition, and data flow documentation and formats technical publications from pamphlets, technical drawings, and consultations with technical personnel and other available resources
  • Maintain and update a web-based knowledge management repository for documents
  • Interact with technical team members for content development
  • Standardize documentation where appropriate, e.g. templates, plans, processes, procedures
  • Become well versed in and comply with federal government and Leidos official document requirements and style guides
  • Provide surge support to the program ISSO team
  • Review documentation provided by the customer's Engineering division as part of the initial ATO package to validate all documents are available and useable in their current state
  • Develop, monitor, and update Plan of Action & Milestones (POA&Ms) to document open risks and vulnerabilities through remediation or mitigate
  • Review, update, and maintain CONOPs, Disaster Recovery, and other required plans for each system to reflect the evolving enterprise
  • Document, track, and obtain approvals for open vulnerabilities that cannot be remediated through the use of POA&Ms, Risk Acceptance requests, or other customer-mandated processes and form

Basic Qualifications
  • Candidates should demonstrate the following:
  • Strong ability to quickly and effectively gather requirements, perform research, compile information, prioritize and collate, draft, edit, and produce high-quality documentation that satisfies customer needs with minimal follow-on work needed
  • Proven ability to distill complex information into clear, concise text
  • Demonstrated excellent writing and grammar skills
  • Proven experience designing and delivering developer-oriented documentation as well as working directly with development teams
  • Experienced using multiple tools to develop base templates and manipulate output styles
  • Possess a thorough comprehension of software development (SDLC), IC ITE, and Risk Management Framework (RMF)
  • Ability to work independently and deliver accurate content under deadline pressure
  • Ability to manage multiple communications projects simultaneously and prioritize accordingly
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work cross functionally among PMO and technical staff
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding, and fluid environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must have excellent teamwork, leadership and conflict management, and critical thinking skills
  • Practical experience understanding and applying ICD-503 Risk Management Framework
  • Understanding of DoD and IC security policies and mandates
  • Experience with reviewing existing ATO documentation, identifying missing or outdated information, and coordinating with relevant support teams to obtain necessary information

Clearance:
  • Due to the nature of the government contracts we support, US Citizenship is required.
  • TS/SCI with Poly required for Position.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field and/or in English/Journalism
  • 8 or more years of technical writing experience
  • Candidate must, at a minimum, meet DoD 8570.11- IAT Level II certification requirements (currently Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, GSEC, or SSCP)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience drafting IT, cybersecurity, or related technical documentation using federal government, particularly DHS, official document requirements and style guides

Pay Range: Pay Range $78,000.00 - $141,000.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
