Job Description

The Technical Writer will play a critical role in supporting the mission of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) by preparing reports and related products that can communicate scientific and technical knowledge into succinct visual deliverables. The individual must possess the ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and assist in creating presentation materials that accurately and clearly convey these ideas to a variety of audiences. This role involves supporting the development of annual office strategies, preparing strategy briefings, and presenting technical opportunities in core competency areas. The Technical Writer will also draft and update strategic plans, create visual aids, and prepare briefings for senior Health and Human Services (HHS) personnel and stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and prepare required presentation briefings to support the office's mission, including the annual office strategy and technical opportunities in the office's core competency areas.
  • Assist in drafting and updating an overarching strategic plan for the office, ensuring alignment with mission objectives.
  • Create and present new start concepts, using visual aids to explain complicated technical approaches to non-experts.
  • Work closely with technical personnel to quickly understand complex technical concepts.
  • Assist in preparing presentation materials that accurately and clearly convey technical concepts to diverse audiences, including senior HHS personnel and stakeholders.
  • Create and update graphs, charts, data visualizations, slides, and spreadsheets to support briefings, meetings, reviews, and taskers.
  • Compile information from Program Managers (PMs) and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive briefings.
  • Handle logistical aspects of briefing preparation, including copying and binding reports, formatting slides, planning pre-brief review sessions, and providing hard copies.
  • Submit read-ahead documents, obtain appropriate releasability through the ARPA-H process, and ensure all briefing materials are prepared and delivered on time.
  • Coordinate and support briefings to senior HHS personnel, ensuring that the content aligns with ARPA-H's efforts and overall HHS mission objectives.

Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in any field.
  • 6+ years of experience in briefing coordination, technical writing, or a related role.
  • Experience in preparing briefing/reports that can communicate scientific and technical knowledge into succinct visual deliverables required.
  • Strong ability to quickly understand and convey complex technical concepts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor presentations to different audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience with creating visual aids, data visualizations, and other presentation materials.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Must-Have:
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier-2 Public Trust clearance.
  • Experience in developing and coordinating presentation briefings for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively with technical personnel to translate complex ideas into clear and concise presentation materials.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage the logistics of briefing preparation.
