Senior Staff Editor, International
The New York Times is seeking a versatile editor for the daily international report. You will work in tandem with a staff located across the world. On any given day, you might be editing a news story, managing a live briefing, helping fine-tune enterprise, writing an explainer or jumping on breaking news. You are flexible and strive for journalistic excellence.
This is a hybrid position based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance.

The annual base pay salary for this role is between $122,529.16 - $125, 000.00

- Handle edits of all sorts, including first edits and write-throughs
- Edit and write for live briefings.
- Elevate effective headlines and clear writing across the entire report.
- Work with reporters and other editors to champion and drive innovative ways of telling stories across our desk in various forms and formats
- Push a strong promotion of stories on the homepage and other core Times platforms.
- Identify and respond quickly to breaking news.
- Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
- You will report to the International Managing Editor.
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience writing and editing copy for news and enterprise, compelling headlines and captions, other display type and social copy
- At least 3 years of experience thinking about multiple story forms and formats
- Excellent news judgment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience collaborating with visual journalists on news and enterprise
- Experience with International stories
- Ability to quickly pick up new topics
- Experience under deadline pressure
- A willingness to be nimble and flexible as the newsroom's needs evolve
- Professional judgment with respect to confidentiality
- Leadership experience, including managing others with the ability to inspire and motivate others
- Being knowledgeable about Times style and applying it properly in different content types
