Morning Anchor/Multimedia Journalist, KMGH

The EW Scripps Company, Denver, CO

KMGH, the E.W. Scripps ABC station in Denver, Colorado is looking for a Morning Anchor who is a reporter first - a dynamic journalist who breathes breaking news and sees the newsroom as a launching pad, not a destination. We want a storyteller who doesn't just read the news, but chases it, lives it, and actively shapes the narrative. Every day, you'll be more than an on-air presence: you'll be pitching in editorial meetings, calling sources, and embedding yourself in the community. The role demands someone who is consistently visible, engaged, and passionate about local storytelling - not a "house cat" waiting for news to arrive, but a field-ready professional who views the anchor desk as just one of many platforms to connect with our audience. If you're a journalist who sees every day as an opportunity to dig deeper, showcase untold stories, and truly represent Denver's heartbeat, KMGH is looking for you.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Anchor morning broadcasts Monday-Friday. Report regularly.
  • Generate compelling story ideas tailored for multiple platforms.
  • Report live on location from various news events.
  • Organize material, and write stories according to prescribed editorial story style, and formats for each of our platforms- including digital.
  • Research stories through personal contacts, the internet and other sources deciding the best angle and approach for the story.
  • Collaborate effectively with News, Promotion, Production and Engineering on daily broadcast, special projects and online coverage.
  • Make community appearances and participate in station-led initiatives.
  • Build a network of informational sources to provide exclusive stories for the Scripps brand.
  • Meet all production deadlines.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  • Bachelor's degree in relation discipline preferred or equivalent years of experience.
  • Generally, 5+ years on-camera experience preferred.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
  • Must connect on camera with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to cultivate sources and mine stories.
  • Knowledge of newsroom computers and computer databases strongly preferred.
  • Must demonstrate strong news judgment and organizational skills.
  • Must have keen sense of logistics and ability to work well under intense pressure and deadlines.
  • Must have good creative and editorial judgment, mastery of journalistic ethics, and libel law.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and concisely.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits.
