Type of Contract: Regular Position (Probationary Period)

Purpose

As we continue to develop our acceleration experience, the role of the Communications & Marketing Manager is responsible for developing and executing the marketing strategies and efforts for the Parallel18 programs. This position is responsible for producing and distributing content that can generate opportunities to grow our Parallel18 community and demonstrate the impact of our institution. Furthermore, the candidate should have the ability and/or experience in brand growth management, creative and engaging digital campaigns (organic and paid), design, implement, evaluate, and deploy website and social media accounts.

This position will manage the communications strategies, efforts, marketing, and media relations of Parallel18, a Puerto Rico Science, Technology & Research Trust program.

The communications and marketing team, led by this position, will ensure the timely and comprehensive execution of marketing activities (in English and Spanish) for the Parallel18 programs which includes: develop & execute campaign and lead the applications process for all of our programs (Pre18, P18, Xpand, BioLeap) and initiatives, develop and grow branding of the organization and its programs, produce and distribute content for the ecosystem and parallel18 community, assist in the production of events (Welcome, Orientation, DemoDay, Ventures Summit, Showcases, Connect Meetings, etc.) lead by the organization, assist in the community building of entrepreneurs.

The most important characteristic for this job will be passion to give back to the entrepreneurship and innovation community in Puerto Rico. The program is made to collaborate and facilitate the path of entrepreneurs, and we need people to be there for them. The Communications & Marketing Manager serves as a key member of the Parallel18 team and will be considered as a leader in the community for digital marketing and branding.

Although the role reports to Parallel18, the duties and responsibilities will also encompass others related to a given functional area in the Trust (i.e., PRSTRT Communications & Marketing). The job performance of this individual will also be assessed based on how well he/she fulfills these duties and responsibilities. In general, management at the given functional area will determine the technical aspects of the individual's job, and the mechanisms that are to be used to facilitate those aspects are consistently fulfilled.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

The main tasks for this position are:
  • Define, execute, and optimize the communications and marketing strategy for Parallel18 and its programs and efforts.
  • Establish a Marketing Strategy for Parallel18 that generates leads and attracts new stakeholders to strengthen and increase our community.
  • Promote Brand and Increase Brand Awareness.
  • Produce & distribute content and marketing material generated with and for the community.
  • Proficiency and utilization of marketing automatization software and knowledge and continued implementation in the Content Management System.
  • Content planning for digital distribution.
  • Website strategy management for various Parallel18 programs and internal platforms.
  • Social Media strategy management for various programs at Parallel18.
  • Manage digital marketing, including Paid Per Click Campaigns.
  • Analyze and continually check search terms, ranking and analytics to monitor the performance of websites and social media accounts to suggest improvements.
  • Negotiate & liaise with third-party agencies and vendors.
  • Develop short & long-term strategies for the Marketing efforts aligned with the PRSTRT efforts
  • With the support of the Operations Department, work on all the processes and initiatives regarding the application process for the programs Pre18 and P18; and give support in the application process of Xpand and BioLeap.
  • With the support of the Operations Department this position oversees the annual Impact Report results and publishing.
  • Identify and pursue media opportunities for Parallel18.
  • Develop external and internal messaging for Parallel18.
  • Train and support the team to communicate Parallel18's vision and mission.
  • Work with internal communications teams and external public relations agency.
  • Develop short and long-term strategies for Parallel18's communication and reputation.
  • Create strong relationships with the most important media platforms in Puerto Rico, U. S. Latin America and Europe.


Duties and responsibilities related to the Functional Area (i.e. PRSTRT Communications and Marketing):
  • Inform management at the given Functional Area of Communications and Marketing for the P.R. Science, Technology & Research Trust (PRSTRT) and its programs all communications & marketing efforts being planned or being requested to him/her (i.e. strategies, content production). The Chief Communications and Marketing Officer (CCMO) will determine frequency and mechanisms to inform about these.
  • CCMO should be copied in all incoming/outgoing electronic messages that involve external audience (especially if they involve press, government, corporate or agency personnel). No statements representing the Trust, or its programs should be made public without prior consultation with the CCMO. Educational types of information may be deployed with the approval of the Program management team only.
  • Adhere to the latest update of "Guidelines Communications & Marketing.doc" defined by CCMO.
  • Participate and contribute to the established forums by CCMO, as requested.
  • Report to CCMO on the established frequency of strategies and/or project plans and progress.

Qualifications & Technical Job Requirements
  • Ability to design and develop marketing strategies and campaigns from scratch.
  • Significant experience developing brands and/or demonstrating success in digital campaigns.
  • Proficient in using Spreadsheets, Presentations, and document programs (i.e. Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and GSuite).
  • Proficient in the use of Canva, ASANA, Sprout Social, and Meta Business Suite.
  • Close relations in the media industry.
  • Impeccable oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish, including excellent writing, proofreading, and editing abilities and command of grammar/punctuation, style, and format.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to translate and articulate broad or complex topics into easily understood concepts and actionable plans and operations.
  • Direct experience with the entrepreneurial process is preferred.
  • Do things with passion and always bring a positive can-do attitude. Execution is one of the most important attributes, as you need to think big but start small and constantly challenge the status quo.

Experience & Educational Requirements
  • Advanced degree (MA, MS, MBA, etc.) relating to communications and/or marketing.
  • Bilingual candidates (English and Spanish) are required.
  • 5+ years as a leader and/or campaign manager responsible for designing, developing, and implementing risk communications, public relations initiatives, public health-related campaigns, behavior change initiatives, and/or marketing in public health or similar fields.
  • Demonstrated success in building and designing creative campaigns that incorporate public relations, marketing, communications, social engagement, and other efforts to successfully inspire significant behavior change.
  • Ability to sustain relationships at all levels of the organization and with organizations, community leaders, municipalities, and advisory bodies within the community.
  • Experience working closely with the media.
  • Ability to draft communications at a variety of levels and for a range of audiences: executive, internal teams, public communities & networks, government organizations among others.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the entrepreneurial process, proposal and grant writing, community outreach and community building are preferred.


Highly Desired:
  • 5+ years of experience in the startup/innovation/entrepreneurship field.
  • Proven experience in digital content production (i.e. podcasts, video, e-learning platform).
  • Experience in building communities.
