Senior Visual Designer

Department: Precision

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Santa Clara, California

Compensation: $135,000 - $150,000 / year

Description

Precision is building a direct connection between the human brain and computers, to benefit the hundreds of millions of people worldwide suffering from neurological conditions. Established in 2021, we are a leader in the development and commercialization of brain-computer interfaces (BCI).

As a Precision employee, you will be collaborating with experts across a diverse array of fields-including neurosurgery, mechanical engineering, machine learning, and microfabrication-to push the boundaries of what is possible. You will be joining a well capitalized and fast-moving company. In the two years since Precision's founding, we have built and validated a product and have begun human trials in partnership with some of the country's leading neurosurgery programs. And you will be working toward a deeply meaningful goal: restoring function to people living with devastating neurological conditions, including stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and neurodegenerative disease such as ALS. Our platform will enable these individuals to regain independence, communicate with loved ones, and return to work.

We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Visual (UI) Designer to join our team. This role will play a crucial part in developing and maintaining our design system, creating a unified style guide and brand identity, and producing visual assets for various applications. The designer will focus primarily on user experience (UX) while also supporting commercial, marketing, and business development (BD) efforts.

This position is on-site at our Santa Clara office. We are unable to consider remote workers or people not currently based in the United States, and who do not have working rights.

Key Responsibilities

Design System & Style Guide Development:
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive design system and style guide, ensuring consistency across all visual elements and applications.
  • Develop hand off templates (with Product Designer) that ensure consistent and precise communication with software that translates to pixel perfect implementation.

Brand & Iconography Work:
  • Develop and refine the visual brand identity for Precision, and support marketing and BD with visual assets, including iconography and conceptual drawings.
  • Develop scientific / technical and conceptual visuals for pitch meetings, conferences, marketing materials, website, and newsletters.

Visual Assets for Applications:
  • Design visual assets for patient-facing applications, including designing (with a product designer) an engaging and visually stunning training experience for the BCI system.
  • Build data visualizations (e.g., dot plots), and other necessary visual elements to facilitate placement and signal confirmation of the BCI array.
  • Build data visualizations and design elements for a BCI data collection (research) desktop application.

Accessibility Considerations (A11y):
  • Ensure all visual designs meet accessibility standards, enhancing the usability and inclusivity of our products.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor's degree in Visual Design, Graphic Design, HCI, User Experience Design, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in visual/UI design, with a strong portfolio showcasing design systems, branding, and application design.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, etc.
  • Experience visually representing large amounts of data in creative and interpretable ways.
  • Experience in creating accessible designs and understanding of A11y standards.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
