Film and Media Intern, Center for Rural Engagement

Job Summary
The IU Center for Rural Engagement (CRE) is seeking a motivated Media Intern to assist with a project in Jasper, Dubois County, in Spring 2025. CRE will partner with the organization Asociación Latinoamericana del Sur de Indiana (ALASI) and IU Media School to help produce an ~8 minute documentary for an upcoming exhibit at the Dubois County Museum, which will feature stories about the founding of ALASI and its impact on the greater community. A person in this role should have a passion for storytelling, basic filming and editing skills, and an eagerness to gain hands-on experience in documentary production.
Department Specific Responsibilities:
- Plays an essential role in capturing and telling impactful stories through film .Responsibilities include assisting with interviews, filming, and editing.
- Provides an excellent opportunity to contribute creatively while building skills in media production within a collaborative environment.
- Assists in planning, filming, and capturing high-quality footage.
- Assists in interviews with community members.
- Supports the production team with logistics, set-up, and technical needs.
- Edits and organizes video content to create a compelling narrative.
EDUCATION
Required
- Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University, studying media, film, communications, journalism, or related field
Required
- Proficient communication skills.
- Maintains a high degree of professionalism.
- Availability to work on-site for filming sessions and exhibit-related activities, with occasional flexible hours to accomodate production needs.
- Basic knowledge of video production and editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for conducting on-camera
- Intercultural competency, a respect for other cultures, and a desire to learn.
- Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty
- Demonstrates a high level of accuracy
- Highly thorough and dependable
- Ability to problem solve
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a production team
- Spanish fluency or a working knowledge of Spanish is strongly preferred.
- Experience or coursework in filming, interviewing, or documentary production
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. While performing this job, interns may be frequently required to sit, stand, and reach with arms and hands. The intern may be asked to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and to operate a vehicle. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Advertised Salary
$15.00 per hour
Work Hours
10-15 hours per week, depending on project volume
This position is for Spring 2025.
