Sr. Marketing Research Analyst

The Market Insights team seizes the opportunity to intimately understand the Higher Education market, our prospects, and our students. We create empathy for their needs and bring the voice of the prospective and current students into strategy development at SEI. These insights help drive strategy for marketing, degree programs, online experience, and other initiatives for SEI and its two universities: Strayer University and Capella University.

In this position, the Sr. Marketing Research Analyst will work independently and will be responsible for designing, executing, analyzing, and presenting primary research projects. These projects span across quantitative, qualitative and secondary research methodologies. This position reports to the Director of Market and Institutional Research.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Build consultative relationships with internal business partners to understand a business problem and identify a primary market research solution.
  • Independently lead primary qualitative and quantitative research projects.


Qualitative Research:
  • Establish research objectives and develop a methodology approach.
  • Write a discussion guide that addresses research objectives.
  • Conduct in-depth interviews or focus groups per project methodology.
  • Create high-quality reports and present findings to our internal clients.
  • Examples of types of projects: focus groups evaluating advertising creative, in-depth interviews to understand product experience, UX research to understand customer journey.


Quantitative Research:
  • Establish research objectives and develop a methodology approach.
  • Design survey instrument that addresses research objectives.
  • Program survey in Qualtrics or other survey software tool.
  • Leverage statistical software to analyze data, including merging data sources, cleaning data, creating sub-populations in the data set, analyzing data by sub-populations.
  • Create high-quality reports and present findings to our internal clients.
  • Example types of projects: Brand Tracking, Concept test, Segmentation.


A portion of projects will be in partnership with an external vendor where the Sr. Analyst will:
  • Manage external third parties in designing, developing and executing primary market research activities.
  • Recommend and interpret relevant advanced quantitative analysis of data as it pertains to the research objectives (for example Conjoint, Regression, Factor Analysis).
  • Work with vendors to create high-quality reports and relevant insights to our internal clients.
  • Promote activation of research insights by applying principles of marketing, product and customer experience to the development of strategy rooted in research findings.


Job Skills:
  • Independently manage projects from start to finish (business problem, objective setting, methodology, execution, analysis, insights presentation).
  • Be a knowledgeable resource and consultant for internal clients about primary research options.
  • Ability to think strategically and encourage strategic dialogue.
  • Synthesizes data across projects and from multiple sources.
  • Distills data into reports that tell a story, addresses research objectives and inspire activation.
  • Activate insights to ensure teams are leveraging research in decision-making.
  • Work independently.
  • Working knowledge of Marketing, Product and Customer Experience principles.
  • Must be fluent in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Experience with Qualtrics or other survey software.
  • Candidates must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Education category experience and/or passion preferred.
  • Creative problem solving and critical thinking in an analytical and technology-based environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable presenting to teams and executive leaders.
  • Ability to work with other functional groups and communicate effectively with all levels of the company and external business partners.
  • Strong organizational, project management and interpersonal skills.
  • Some travel (2-4 times per year) is required.


Work Experience:
  • Experience conducting market research with B2C and B2B audiences
  • Quantitative Research Experience: 3+ years experience in designing, developing, executing and reporting quantitative primary research projects. Experience applying statistics to quantitative market research projects and 3+ years experience using SPSS or other statistical software.
  • Qualitative Research Experience: 2+ years experience in designing, developing, executing and reporting qualitative primary research projects.


Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Master's or MBA degree strongly preferred.


Other:
  • Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles travel would not be common. Travel may involve plane, car or metro.   • Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs.
