Powell's Books has an opening for a Senior Visual Merchandising Manager.

The Senior Visual Merchandising Manager is a new companywide position that will work out of the Burnside location and provides merchandising expertise. This position will also help lead the visual merchandising efforts for both book and gift categories, and work to support the Director of Merchandising. Working independently and collaboratively, the Senior Visual Merchandising Manager coordinates all aspects of the store's visual merchandising program, ensuring a seamless execution of store layouts, product displays, and in-store merchandising and marketing materials.

Schedule:

Position Summary:

The Senior Visual Merchandising Manager is a member of the merchandising department. The position leads the visual merchandising efforts for both book and gift categories at the flagship City of Books location, ensuring that displays are consistent, compelling, and aligned with the company's brand vision. Working independently and collaboratively, the Senior Visual Merchandising Manager coordinates all aspects of the store's visual merchandising program, ensuring a seamless execution of store layouts, product displays, and in-store merchandising and marketing materials. This role involves analyzing sales data, optimizing product placement, and driving sales through visually engaging displays across all product categories. Additionally, the Senior Visual Merchandising Manager tracks key performance metrics and collaborates with the Burnside Leadership Team, and corporate purchasing departments. This position is also responsible for leading and mentoring a visual merchandising team, promoting a culture of teamwork, creativity, and accountability. Reports to the Director of Merchandising.

Essential Functions:

Execute strategies as directed by the Director of Merchandising, ensuring displays align with the brand vision and support promotional activities and product assortments. Oversee the Burnside store's merchandising calendar, coordinating with the corporate merchandising team and store leadership to ensure timely and high-standard execution of displays and promotions. Assess store displays, analyze sales data, and identify improvement opportunities. Ensure all product categories are represented through engaging and effective displays. Supervise the daily activities of the visual merchandising team, ensuring consistency in store layouts and displays for books, gifts, and promotions. Ensure all displays adhere to corporate standards. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align visual presentations with product and merchandising goals. Act as a liaison between corporate merchandising, Burnside management, and staff to ensure clear communication around visual merchandising efforts. Manage display updates and revisions. Work with the store team to track key performance indicators (KPIs) by product classification, identifying top sellers and areas for improvement. Regularly assess the effectiveness of displays, making adjustments to enhance customer engagement and sales, while ensuring safety and accessibility. Oversee the timely execution of seasonal and promotional displays, ensuring they meet creative and operational goals. Partner with store management to assign tasks and to prioritize workflow and productivity. Participate in hiring, training, mentoring staff, and conducting performance evaluations. Initiate and follow-through with in-the-moment and problem-solving conversations, performance management and progressive discipline as needed. Encourage a culture of teamwork, respect, and accountability, celebrating team achievements and promoting high standards. Drive company vehicles as necessary in a safe and legal manner. Perform other duties as required.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum of three years of demonstrated visual merchandising experience, with a focus on executing store layouts and in-store customer experience strategies. Experience supervising, leading, and training employees (retail management and/or bookstore management experience preferred) or demonstrated leadership skills at Powell's. Demonstrated ability to execute visual merchandising strategies that drive sales and enhance customer experiences. Strong leadership skills necessary to manage a team and collaborate with various departments, ensuring projects are completed on time and to brand standards. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience in tracking and reporting KPIs by product classification. Excellent organizational skills; ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in visual merchandising software and tools, including computer programs that support basic graphic design and store layout needs. Superior initiative, follow-through, and accountability. Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Current OR or WA driver's license required. Must have and maintain a driving record that is compatible with company standards. Love of books and reading. Physical requirements - Group V
