Position Title:Student Employee, Sports Editor - BlazerJob Description:This position requires someone with some experience in writing, particularly sports, and an ability to edit others' work. It is a part-time position that requires management, writing and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work in a team environment.POSITION TITLE: Student Employee, Sports Editor - BlazerSTATUS: Part timeDEPARTMENT: Dean of StudentsDIVISION: Student DevelopmentREPORTS TO: Bob MarcinkCLASSIFICATION: Non-exemptMINIMIUM PAY RATE: $14.00 per hour(Position is FWS Eligible)ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Edit sports stories2. Write sports stories3. Assign stories to other writers4. Work with Co-editors to determine layout and priorities5. Perform related duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS1. Enrolled at JJC for 6 or more credit hours.2. GPA 2.0 or above.3. Writing experience on a student newspaper4. Ability to work in Word and other applications5. Ability and willingness to work with others in a team environment6. Ability to interview coaches/players and produce original material7. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS1. Sports Writing experience2. Editing experience, sports or other3. Ability to manage others4. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.5. Demonstrated multicultural competence.PHYSICAL DEMANDS•Ability to attend sporting events and cover them; normal office demandsWORKING CONDITIONS•Duties are performed indoors in the usual office and/or outdoor environment, depending upon the sports season.Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.
