Staff Accountant
The Staff Accountant will be part of an accounting group supporting multiple clients. The primary responsibility is the accurate and timely completion of accounting functions including but not limited to invoicing, bank reconciliation, sales and payroll taxes, payroll, account maintenance and tax preparation The ideal candidate will take a proactive approach to addressing problems and designing processes to maintain and enhance a positive client experience. This full-time salaried position requires flexible, extended hours during times of increased client volume and tax season.
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintain client records, document all client contact and track time by client
- Prepare annual write ups and tax returns
- Provide bookkeeping services for businesses in a variety of industries
- Provide payroll services and prepare payroll tax documents for business clients
- Proactively interact with clients to gather information, resolve accounting & tax-related issues, and make recommendations for business and process improvements
- Gain understanding of client operations, processes, and business objectives
- Perform other job-related duties as necessary
- Communicate proactively with clients to gather information, resolve tax related issues, and make recommendations for business and process improvements.
- Resolve IRS and state agency audits, inquiries, and tax notices.
- Communicate directly with existing clients, colleagues, management, regarding various tax matters.
- Engage in consulting and special projects as requested by management and clients.
- Generate supporting schedules & reports as needed.
- Month-end close duties - reconciliations, preparing in-house financial statements, journal entries
- AP, AR and ensuring accuracy of all balances for month-end close
Requirements:
- Ability to manage multiple client accounts
- Proficiency of QuickBooks
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs, particularly spreadsheet programs (Excel) required.
- Excellent project management, analytical, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic team environment
- Professionalism, dependability, integrity, and trustworthiness combined with a cooperative attitude
- Highly motivated self-starter with ability to multitask and complete assignments within time constraints and deadlines
- Dedication to superior client service
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Interest in developing and improving technology with the firm and with clients
- An understanding of small business
- Proficiency working with Microsoft Excel and a computerized financial system
Desired Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field
- Minimum of three years of experience in accounting
- Experience in small business preferred
- CPA aspirations or candidacy preferred but not required
- Tax preparation experience
