MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Mechanical Designer I is responsible for:
- Meets daily with design team to identify and escalate roadblocks to remove barriers.
- Creator of Engineering Change Notifications to formally define design data.
- Initiates Engineering Change Requests when improvements, modifications, or errors are identified in released designs.
- Coordinates with sub-contractor 3D models and associated 2D drawing and schematics in accordance with company, industry, and project standards.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the department by creating work instructions for best practices for modeling, metadata inputting, and establishing procedures and processes.
- Partner with project teams, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure procedure procedures and work processes contain the required level of information.
- Closely managed and tasks are limited in complexity.
QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES
- Minimum of 0-2 years’ experience as a marine designer with extensive experience in 3D modeling of ship systems and structures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Project, and Access.
- Able to work unsupervised efficiently and effectively.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, leadership, conflict management, and critical thinking skills.
- Experience working with and leading small teams of Engineers and Designers.
- Familiarity with ABS regulations, USCG CFR’s, and typical shipbuilding industry standards such as ASME, ASNE, and ISO.
- Experience with compliance for ASME and ANSI drafting standards.
- Experience using ShipConstructor and MarineDraftingm.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Working conditions are normal for a Manufacturing environment where exposure to dust, fumes and airborne particles, temperature extremes and elevated noise level.
- Employees must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and or move more than 50 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, stoop, kneel, climb, crouch, talk and hear.
- Position requires use of computer, telephones, and other office equipment, reading, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity.
- Position occasionally requires ability to work in a manufacturing environment and boats from the beginning of production through the sea trails. This includes mobility to work in and around incomplete aluminum hull structure
