Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Material Planner to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the procurement of materials needed, while also planning the production, use, and disposal of waste materials. Material planners manage inventories and stockroom operations, while also coordinating with suppliers, manufacturers, and Operations.
Duties
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, production, and procurement, to gather data and insights for accurate demand forecasting.
- Utilize historical data, market trends, and customer orders to generate demand forecasts that drive materials procurement and production planning.
- Determine optimal inventory levels based on demand forecasts, lead times, and production schedules.
- Implement strategies to reduce excess inventory, minimize stockouts, and improve inventory turnover ratios.
- Work closely with production teams to align materials availability with production schedules, ensuring uninterrupted manufacturing processes.
- Adjust material orders and schedules as needed to accommodate changes in production plans.
- Generate purchase orders for materials based on demand forecasts and inventory requirements.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and address any potential supply disruptions.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, communicating material requirements, lead times, and quality expectations.
- Collaborate with suppliers to address any supply-related issues and explore opportunities for process improvements.
- Analyze materials usage patterns, lead times, and consumption rates to make informed decisions and recommendations.
- Generate regular reports on inventory levels, materials availability, and procurement activities for management review.
- Identify opportunities to optimize materials planning processes, streamline workflows, and enhance overall efficiency.
- Implement best practices and tools to improve the accuracy of demand forecasts and inventory management.
- Work closely with various teams, including production, procurement, sales, and logistics, to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of materials planning efforts.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements
- Proficiency in using demand forecasting software, inventory management systems, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, trends, and demand patterns.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective cross-functional collaboration.
- Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Problem-solving capabilities and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and their impact on materials planning.
- High School graduate or equivalent with some college preferred. NAPM or APICS Certification preferred.
- Experience with MRP/ERP systems, preferably with Visibility.
- 4+ years of current experience in materials planning, inventory management, or supply chain roles.
- Prolonged periods of siting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, push, pull, crouch, kneel, reach, and walk short distances.
- Annual Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 per year.
