POSITION SUMMARY This position provides ophthalmic photography services in all areas of ophthalmology (fundus, slit lamp, external digital imaging). In addition, this position will provide diagnostic support doing axial length measurements for cataract surgery, specular microscopy, pachymetry, biometry, etc. This position supports the department's teaching missions related to the preparation of teaching materials, as well as training and educating residents and staff on all areas of ophthalmic photography. This position is a patient interactive position. CORE FUNCTIONS 1. Performs the following but not limited to diagnostic procedures: Fundus photography, Fluorescein angiography, Cardio-green angiography, Slit lamp, anterior chamber photography. Scans for intraocular lens selection, anterior segment and posterior segment. 2. Monitors ophthalmologist schedules for correctness and efficient patient flow. 3. Performs clinic external photography for ocular motility and topography photography using a handheld digital camera. File transfer and camera knowledge essential. 4. Ability to perform, specular microscopy as well as, digital imaging, corneal topography, Pachymetry and Biometry with IOL calculations. 5. Performs clinic ocular motility and other forms of external photography required by the physician. 6. Maintains ophthalmic equipment and cameras, trains other personnel to use equipment as appropriate and stocks photography exam rooms. Performs timely troubleshooting and minor repairs or facilitates major repair with designated vendors of all equipment within the department. 7. This position works under the general supervision of the ophthalmologist, optometrist and/or resident. This position interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient. Also interacts with physician’s offices in order to report, ask for or clarify information. Prioritizes data from multiple sources to provide support for the response of the patient and family to changes in health status. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Requires knowledge typically obtained by completion of an associate degree in photography. Requires three to five years of medical/ophthalmic photography experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Additional related education and/or experience preferred. Certification by Ophthalmic Photographers Society preferred.
