The Opportunity This position works out of our corporate headquarters in Abbott Park. The Manager, HR Communications, helps connect Abbott’s 114,000+ employees with the numerous development and benefits programs offered by the company. The role serves as a relationship manager to assigned Practice Areas within HR. The role provides strategic consulting to HR leadership, project leads and department heads, and develops project plans to support global HR programs and local communication strategies. This position works in an energetic team setting, balances multiple priorities and may manage the work of others, directly or indirectly. The role reports to the Director, HR Communications. What You’ll Do The Manager, HR Communications: Identify communication opportunities for internal partners to align with and support Abbott’s global HR strategy. Lead communication efforts to build awareness and promote our compensation and benefit offerings to our U.S. employees. This includes developing strategies for our annual open enrollment as well as ongoing marketing of benefit programs and events. Serve as lead contact for our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) team, which includes being part of the team that writes and produces our annual DEI Report and crafting write-ups for external ranking and award submissions. Develop communication strategies and plans to guide the creation, design and implementation of communication campaigns and channels to reach employees in various workplace settings, such as manufacturing, field, and offices. Effectively manage relationships with internal and external communication partners (Public Affairs, Corporate Communications, HR personnel, outside contractors, etc.). Ensure HR Communications are consistent and aligned with Abbott's corporate brand identity and strategic directions, business philosophies and general practices. Work with HR Communication team members to ensure a cohesive approach to the comprehensive, global HR Communications strategy. Position Accountability / Scope The Manager, HR Communications, serves primarily as a relationship manager to our U.S. benefits team and DEI team, but will also provide communications counsel and support as needed for other practice areas and global projects. The role has responsibility for developing plans and strategies designed to achieve results, writing, and producing a variety of communications materials, and managing projects. The manager, HR Communications, must closely influence clients and coordinate with teammates to meet deadlines and HR Communication goals. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, public relations or other communication-related major. 6-10 years of experience with increasing responsibility in multiple communication roles in corporate or agency setting. Experience working with senior management is preferred. Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic counsel as well as tactical excellence in employee communications, executive communications, and relationship management. Requires strong project management skills, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, diplomacy, learning agility, and multitasking ability. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with HR communications, especially with U.S. healthcare benefits, preferred. Knowledge of relationship marketing, email marketing campaigns and emerging communications technology is desired. Some marketing experience is preferred.
