POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the general direction of the Director of Library Services, the Assistant Director is responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, and coordination of the operations and services of Groton Public Library. The Assistant Director manages the facility and staff, coordinates the implementation of new services, assists in the development of the annual operating budget, participates in the planning and goal setting for the library, interacts with community partners and stakeholders, and provides direct and indirect customer service to patrons.
The Assistant Director supervises and manages the performance, growth and development of the library team. Helps coordinate department orientation, hiring, and corrective guidance. This role determines, creates, and directs work procedures, schedules and workflows. Ensures implementation and guidance in relation to department and Town wide standards and procedures. May assume responsibility for other department functions or special projects as assigned by the Director. Serves as the Director of Library Services in their absence. Includes occasional after-hours meetings. This is a non-union, exempt, full-time position.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The skills and knowledge would be acquired with a Master's Degree in Library Science and five (5) years of progressively responsible library work. A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience is preferred. A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position may be considered in lieu of stated educations and experience requirements.
This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational, administrative, and coordination skills are essential. The ability to successfully manage full and part time employees, motivate staff, and to engender a team approach are crucial. Ability to exercise mature judgment, make responsible decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures, and meet deadlines. Must be proficient with administrative software and Microsoft Office. A strong knowledge of the current operating procedures, principles, and policies of libraries is required, as is knowledge of current library trends and experience in the implementation of developing technologies.
Criminal background, drug testing, and driving record checks required prior to employment.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
