POSITION SUMMARY
The Howard H. Baker Jr. School of Public Policy and Public Affairs (Baker School) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville seeks applications and nominations for a full-time Creative Manager to join the team of professionals within the Baker School's Office of Communications and Marketing (C&M). This position will lead the creation, design, and execution of digital multimedia and printed collateral for the Baker School, including video storytelling to showcase the achievements of students, faculty, staff, and alumni at the School and for the Institute of American Civics (IAC). The Creative Manager is responsible for managing all phases of creative development work from concept to completion. This role promotes collaboration among various college units (Baker School, Institute of American Civics, and two research centers) to deliver creative communication and design solutions that support marketing, outreach, student recruitment, and donor relations. The position requires a commitment to accuracy, meeting deadlines, and support for effective relationships with campus and external constituencies. The Creative Manager must be a creative thinker, visionary, and team leader. The Creative Manager reports to the Director of Communications and Marketing, oversees student workers, and works in close collaboration with the Baker School Office of Communications and Marketing.

FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Videography/Digital Asset Management
• Leads strategy for video production needs to enhance the digital presence of the School, IAC, and centers; reviews and approves all scripts, selects soundbites, and reviews/approves video production edits.
• Works with the Director of Communications and Marketing to write scripts for video production.
• Arrange and direct all photo shoots.
• Leads the creation of storyboards and scripts for video production.
• Manages and produces high-quality and impactful video projects for internal and external use (presentations, website, email marketing, social media, and events).
• Leads and manages post-production work, including editing, captioning, and branding.
• Produces compelling photography to enhance written content, the website, and social media, to extend brand identity.
• Attends Baker School events/meetings to capture images/videos for marketing use.
• Implements a new digital video/photo assets system to support video production and content creation, including stories, web, and social media for the college, schools, and units.
• Enhances digital imagery to create a high visual impact and produce artistic and infographic elements.
• Collaborates and assists with content for publication in the social media accounts of the Baker School.
• Manages content shown on Baker School and department monitors - ensuring consistency across the college.
• Maintain video/photography production equipment and associated software inventory, including providing budget estimates for higher-level equipment purchases, repairs, or maintenance needs; performing preventative maintenance on equipment; and maintaining video file records.
Graphic Design/Creative
• Develops and implements creative standards for the college, units, and schools while adhering to UT Brand Guidelines.
• Serves as lead designer and works alongside the Director of C&M to develop concepts and appropriate communication vehicles for the Baker School. These projects may range from small-scale items such as posters or invitations to larger-scale, high-profile, complex projects like magazines or full communication campaigns involving multiple designed pieces delivered across a full suite of media, including print, electronic, and video.
• Manages the creative project workload for the team, ensuring deadlines are met, and projects are sent to clients in a timely manner.
• Collaborates with other departments to ensure that creative projects are of the highest quality and meet the objectives of the organization.
• Oversees the development of creative strategies and ensures that the end product is in line with the client's expectations.
• Works with the Director of C&M to order marketing and promotional materials through internal and external vendors.
• Create designs with a strong sense of composition, typography, and color while adhering to existing brand guidelines.
• Create graphics for websites and emails to complement news releases, student profiles, and alumni/donor stories. • Create templates for the Baker School in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and other software programs, such as Adobe InDesign, while adhering to existing brand guidelines.
• Collaborates with team members to ensure design consistency across various media, with an emphasis on communication campaigns.
• Works with printers and promotional item vendors to package pieces for print, obtain estimates for printing items, and liaise with printers and vendors regarding deadlines and delivery of printed items while ensuring the budget is in line with purchases.
• Keeps apprised of design trends and methodologies.
• Makes design format decisions that work within project budgets and align with marketing plans.
• Presents design concepts and strategic direction to clients and fellow team members.
• Maintains brand integrity across all platforms and across all print and digital materials.
• Promotes the Baker School to both internal and external audiences through print and digital graphic design.
Social Media
• Works with the Director of C&M to develop and manage content/editorial calendars and coordinate scheduled content with key stakeholders.
• Manages social media interns to ensure consistency and branding for social media.
• Creates and manages digital content on various marketing channels, including social media, to further the outreach goals of The Baker School - ensuring content is timely and relevant.
• Monitors social media channels and responds to evolving trends to elevate Baker School's online presence.
Other
• Ensure all content is on-brand, consistent in style, quality, and tone, optimized for search, and adapted for multiple platforms.
• Mentors and manages student interns within the Office of Communications and Marketing.
• Represent the Baker School at conferences or conventions as needed.
• Assists C&M for large scale programs and events for the college.
• Collaborates closely with team members and partners and contributes to projects/initiatives.
• Provides support for strategic planning of communication and marketing campaigns.
• Supports effective, productive relationships with campus colleagues served by the Office of Communications and Marketing.
• Contributes to creative brainstorming and content planning.
• Helps develop the office's creative culture, upholds quality standards, and collaborates with management to set standards for the college's public representation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in visual communications, graphic design, journalism, marketing communications or a similar field; or equivalent knowledge and experience. Two-three years of experience in graphic design, videography, communications, or public relations settings.
• Experience in the areas of audio visual, video production, filming and editing multimedia content.
• Proficient in the Adobe CC graphic design software - including but not limited to Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign; experience in WordPress, and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) preferred.
• Knowledge and familiarity with A/V and lighting equipment (functionality and set-up).
• Be creative and deadline driven.
• Advanced knowledge of shooting video in various settings.
• Advanced knowledge of editing video and audio recordings and adjusting them in post-production.
• Ability to follow technical requirements, accessibility guidelines and best practices in the creation of multimedia content for websites and social media.
• Excellent skills operating computer, photography and video equipment including cameras and recording devices.
• Experience with photo editing, illustration, vector image manipulation and motion graphics.
• Experience with audio editing for videos and for audio-only projects, such as interviews and podcasts.
• Skilled in working within a brand.
• A team-player able to handle multiple projects simultaneously, meet tight completion deadlines, work independently and communicate effectively.
• Experience with print design and layout for sales and marketing collateral, flyers, posters, trade-show materials, multipage brochures and catalogs.
• Requires the ability to exercise sound discretionary judgment, and the ability to interface and consult with the cross-functional teams on the coordination of projects.
• Requires strong artistic and graphics skills. Must have a strong eye and a high aesthetic for graphic and interactive design, typography, photography, etc.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.
• Proficient use of Zoom, Live Stream and Vimeo.
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to adapt to ever-changing workloads and deadlines, and work well within the team environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• • Master's Degree in visual communications, graphic design, journalism, marketing communications or a similar field.
• • Five years of experience in graphic design, videography, communications, or public relations settings.

The Howard H. Baker Jr. School for Public Policy and Public Affairs (Baker School), was established in 2023 to honor the distinguished life and legacy of Howard H. Baker Jr., a former US Senator, Senate Majority Leader, White House Chief of Staff, and Ambassador to Japan. Located in a 51,000-sq. ft purpose-built facility, the Baker School evolved from the Baker Center, which for twenty years has operated as a think-tank producing research, public engagement programming, and an active set of student programs. The Baker School is very excited to add degree programs and to grow its research programming into independent research centers. In addition, the Baker School houses the Institute of American Civics, which is responsible for encouraging civic knowledge and civic participation among UT students and the state at large.
