A Brief Overview
The Healthcare Writer is responsible for partnering with Leadership to provide writing assistance to clinician researchers and healthcare leaders, in order to publish on research and innovations in peer-reviewed publications. The Healthcare Writer will provide specialized support and consultation in support of the preparation of manuscripts, including assistance with data management and literature synthesis. The Healthcare Writer will also participate in writing workshops and other capacity-building activities to promote publication.
What You Will Do
  • Through the direction of Leadership, work with investigators and healthcare leaders to write and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts on clinical research, health services research, and healthcare leadership.
  • Provide constructive feedback to investigators to improve clarity, logic, and completeness of manuscripts
  • Acquire, analyze, and present healthcare data using advanced methods that facilitate publication in high-ranking journals
  • Acquire, analyze, and synthesize information on a variety of clinical and leadership topics, from various sources including peer-reviewed scientific publications, gray literature, and web-based content
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with investigators and leaders
  • Communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders including health system and clinician leaders
  • Manage time effectively to start and complete multiple co-occurring projects in a timely manner
  • Understand and communicate effectively about regulatory and ethical standards including IRB, data governance, and publication of scholarly work
  • Actively participate in UH Departmental training and mentorship activities
  • Lead special projects as assigned and approved by Departmental and UH leadership

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications:
Education
  • Master's Degree Life sciences field, journalism, communications or Public Health (Required)
Work Experience
  • 3+ years Experience working in a healthcare organization or institution of higher education (Required)
  • 3+ years Strong publication record in healthcare and peer-reviewed scientific publications, including as first and/or senior author (Required)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Excellent critical analysis skills (Required proficiency)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (Required proficiency)
  • Able to quickly acquire working knowledge regarding a variety of scientific/medical fields (Required proficiency)
  • Able to establish effective collaborations with faculty investigators in various disciplines (Required proficiency)
  • Able to meet deadlines in a timely manner (Required proficiency)
  • Able to organize multiple tasks with varying deadlines (Required proficiency)
