Position Highlights
The Writing Center Program Coordinator contributes to daily operation of the Writing Center and to further its goal of providing peer writing support for matriculated students at the University of Arizona. The Program Coordinator works with the Writing Center Manager to provide program oversight for the Writing Center and helps foster a welcoming, collaborative, and professional environment within which both writing tutors and student clients can thrive.
The Writing Center is housed in THINK TANK, a student academic services unit under Student Success and Retention Innovation (SSRI). As a hub for learning assistance and enrichment programs, THINK TANK engages with students using a variety of service models including tutoring by appointment and drop-in sessions for various courses, Supplemental Instruction, workshops, and events. Services are provided by peer tutors, graduate assistants, and professional staff and are available to U of A students in both centralized and satellite locations. All SSRI units, including THINK TANK, are committed to creating and maintaining an environment that is diverse, inclusive, and free of discrimination. The Writing Center provides students the opportunity to work with trained peer tutors on any writing project, at any stage of the writing process. Peer writing tutors serve both undergraduate and graduate students across all academic disciplines and participate in writing workshops, events, and other initiatives. The Writing Center Program Coordinator works closely with the Writing Center Manager and the center's partners at the Graduate Writing Lab to ensure that the peer tutors are scheduled, trained, and supported thoughtfully and effectively. The Program Coordinator will attend administrative team meetings, staff development trainings, and periodic THINK TANK meetings. The position is administrative and supervisory in nature. Duties & Responsibilities- Works with the Writing Center Manager to develop and implement an exemplary and comprehensive tutoring program.
- Follows established guidelines to communicate workplace information to tutors and admin team members.
- Collaboratively sets work priorities and goals for programming.
- Responsible for regularly communicating the progress, outcomes, and direction of work to the Writing Center Manager.
- Makes recommendations concerning improvement of programs and services to the Writing Center Manager.
- Maintains tutor schedule with tutor information for the Writing Center.
- Works with the administrative team to supervise, support, observe, and evaluate tutors.
- Helps plan and facilitate tutor training sessions.
- Creates training materials when necessary.
- Creates and updates program materials when necessary.
- Helps coordinate the recruitment, hiring, and training of tutoring staff within established budget guidelines.
- Assists with approving payroll and tutor leave requests.
- Assists tutors in clock-in and clock-out procedures and other HR-related functions.
- Provides technical and methodological expertise for tutors.
- Helps coordinate and facilitate workshops, studios, and events.
- Provides problem solving assistance, interprets departmental policy and procedures pertaining to tutoring.
- Assists in special programs, including Embedded Tutoring, Cultural Centers support, and others as requested.
- Maintains collaborative working relationships with members of THINK TANK staff and campus colleagues.
- Interacts with THINK TANK staff to facilitate departmental work.
- Supports THINK TANK through participation in a variety of departmental activities, assignments and committees.
- And other duties as required.

- Knowledge of CRLA International Tutor Training Program Certification.
- Bachelor's degree in a writing studies field, Education, or other appropriate field and one year of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-baccalaureate education in a writing studies field, education, or other appropriate field.
- Tutor program experience.
- Experience supervising student workers.
