Job Description

The Journalism program in the Department of Communications at the University of La Verne (30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles) has an immediate opening for a part-time adjunct instructor/professor to teach Intermediate Broadcast Journalism in the Spring 2025 semester. The 16-week semester begins in February 2025.

The course is taught in person and can be scheduled as a morning, afternoon or evening class that meets once or twice a week.

Social MediaThe Communications Department at the University of La Verne has an immediate opening for a seasoned journalist or communications professional to teach our course "Social Media for Journalism and Communications." We're looking for someone with broad social media experience and diverse social media engagement, who has a track record of integrating social media use into all aspects of their professional work in journalism and communications, including networking with potential employers and employees, promoting and pitching stories, building and expanding communities of followers, using social media for research and data mining; writing, producing and adapting multimedia stories for cross-platform social media production and promotion, and more.

The class is a two-unit January term intensive "boot camp," which will meet for three-hour sessions twice a week for the month of January.

Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Program Chair the adjunct professor will:
    Develop and Maintain Syllabus Materials: The adjunct professor is responsible for selecting and compiling tests, assignments and/or online discussion exercises.
  • Facilitate Class Instruction: The adjunct professor is responsible for teaching the assigned course in accordance with learning objectives and session plan outlines.
  • Evaluate Student Performance: The adjunct professor is expected to administer evaluations of student performance based on course deliverables and course rubrics. All course grades will be posted on the Blackboard Grade Center.


Required Qualifications
•Bachelor's Degree, Journalism.
•Professional journalism experience - 5 Years

Preferred Qualifications
•Master's Degree, Journalism

Adjunct Instructor (no terminal degree): $28.13

Adjunct Professor (with terminal degree): $29.21
