THE POSITION The City of Santa Barbara Library Department is seeking a motivated, adaptable, and ILS-knowledgeable Library Systems Analyst. Under general direction from the Department Systems Supervisor, the Library Systems Analyst will administer and maintain the City of Santa Barbara's integrated library (ILS) system, Aspen discovery layer, and related patron authentication systems to ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures. This position will maintain interfaces between the ILS and other systems, design custom reports, analyze and present data, perform quality assurance checks after system upgrades, and make recommendations and monitor future developments and complex tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility. Koha ILS administration, Aspen discovery layer administration, SQL reporting, and ILS-related system integration. Public library ILS automation standards and practices, analysis, planning, design, maintenance and management of patron records, item records, and bibliographic records; research techniques and methods; budgeting practices; project management and planning methods; standard hardware and software security practice and procedures. Principles and practices of data analysis, data compilation, and effective report writing. Theories of information-seeking behavior and information use, user-centered approaches to information system design, human-computer interaction, database design and management, and information policy, including intellectual property and information and patron privacy. Ability to : Administer an ILS and correspond with hosting vendor as needed to do so. Prepare and maintain a variety of reports and records in visual and numerical formats; plan, schedule, and complete projects efficiently and in accordance with City quality standards; analyze and interpret research and formulate appropriate action plans; prepare clear and concise program documentation, user procedures, and other written materials; exercise independent judgment within established guidelines; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, end users, vendors, and contractors. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Three to five (3-5) years of progressively responsible experience performing ILS and library systems administration and maintenance, project management, and hands-on hardware/software troubleshooting. Education and/or Training: A bachelor's degree in library science or computer science or related field. M.L.S. or M.L.I.S (Master's Degree in Library or Information Science) ishighly desired License, Certificate and/or Other Requirements: Possession of a valid California driver's license. THE SALARY RANGE consists of five steps, each representing an increase of approximately five percent. STEP INCREASES , through the top salary step, are tied to job performance with annual performance reviews. Employees receive annual performance reviews. Flexwork/Telecommuting is available. Bilingual pay may be available at a rate of $64 / pay period. Vacation is accrued at 96 hours / year, increasing with City service. Personal leave (32 hours) is provided each July 1st at the start of the fiscal year (pro-rated the first year). Sick leave is accrued at the rate of 96 hours / year. Holidays : 10 holidays (80 hours) are observed / year. Retirement : PERS Miscellaneous formula: "Classic" members: 2.7% 55; employee contributes 8% of salary. "New" members: 2% 62; employee contributes 6.75% of salary. The City does not participate in Social Security. Insurance including medical, dental and vision benefits are available under a group plan.
