The MusicianShip is growing, and we are looking for Music Instructors to help us inspire, educate and empower youth in Washington, DC. Music professionals and educators who are self-motivated and have experience working with groups of youth will be an integral part of moving our mission forward. We are currently seeking the following instructor positions:
- Band Instructor (Woodwind/Brass)
- Drumline Instructor
- Music Production Instructor
- Vocal Music Instructor
- General Music Instructor
Our Music Instructors will focus on providing youth with innovative and educational afterschool music programming that includes music theory, music performance, and socio-emotional learning. This team member will report to the Education and Artistic Development Specialist or the Education and Community Programs Manager. In addition to serving as the lead educators for their program sites, Music Instructors will be supported by Site Coordinators who will handle the administrative requirements of the program.
Your Day Will Typically Involve:
- Attending afterschool programs to deliver music education and SEL lesson
- Preparing youth for performance opportunities
- Building community with youth and their families
- Communicating successes and challenges of programs with Site Coordinators
- Assessing student skills and completing Music Aptitude Assessments for youth
- Maintaining confidential data as required by FERPA
- Attending field trips, performances, or after-school assemblies
- Attending required meetings with site coordinators, school administrators, and TMS leadership
- Communicating program needs to Site Coordinators and department leadership
- Other programmatic tasks and projects as directed by management
Some Additional Details:
- Music Instructors will typically work 8 to 12 hours per week depending on the number of days or sites worked.
- The Work Schedule for this position varies by program site but is usually 2 to 4 days per week, Monday - Thursday, from 3:00 - 6:00 PM; may need to be available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- This position may require up to 15% virtual work but is primarily an on-site role.
- Must be available to attend pre-program training
Requirements
What We’re Looking for in a Teammate:
- Some college or equivalent experience
- 1+ years of music instruction experience; experience teaching youth in group settings a plus
- Basic classroom and behavior management skills
- A passion for empowering youth
- Must pass a background check conducted by The Office of Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes (OST)
- Vaccinated against COVID-19 or has a related exemption
- Proficiency in G-Suite and Microsoft Office
Benefits
The Compensation Range for this position is $30 - $40 per hour and includes payment for off-site administrative work like lesson planning, professional development, and training.
