Goal
Hire top-tier talent to help design and deliver world class products and experiences. We're looking to bring on a highly capable individual contributor who helps influence the product strategy, ensures user value is created, and collaborates with PMs & Engineering to design and deliver valuable products and experiences on Android, iOS and the in-home panel.
Top responsibilities
Leads discovery in identifying which problems to solve. A successful senior designer can uncover where we can provide the most value to our customers by quantifying and making cases for which problems if solved, would provide the user and the business with the most value.
Goes wide on ideation and narrows to effective solutions via testing, and iteration. After identifying which problems to solve, a successful senior designer will ideate, test, and iterate quickly... narrowing on highly effective and proven solutions via robust testing.
Owns the design of end-to-end product experiences on the Vivint mobile app. As a senior designer, you will be the point to person for the product you are responsible for. You’ll need to know the history and the direction of the product experiences and be able to confidently talk to any question others may have.
Collaborates and communicates with their extended product development team. A senior designer collaborates and communicates effectively with team members in engineering, product, and QA to define, design, build, test, deploy, and maintain products that balance user value while also using the app as a promotional tool.
Advocates for the user by using data, industry best practices, and their own expertise. As a senior designer, you will ground your insights and concepts with real world data and experience to provide user value that is highly competitive within the product landscape.
Designs with the consideration of technical feasibility and product constraints. A senior designer will have a deep understanding of platform and device requirements such as form factors, screen resolutions, pixel density, aspect ratios, interaction needs, cross-functional dependencies and timelines and is able to make the right tradeoff decisions given the product constraints and requirements.
Is a significant voice for prioritization of features and bug fixes. A senior designer on our team has a strong voice for prioritization of features and bug fixes. They are customer obsessed and can advocate for delivering user value, working closely with product and engineering to define the right MVP for our upcoming experiences.
Additional responsibilities include:
Contributing to and maintaining the Vivint Design Library
Designing for accessibility needs
Surfacing issues proactively that could impact timelines or user experience.
Design compelling experiences that will excite everyone who comes in contact with them.
Organize, label, and structure content in a way that is understandable for users/players to allow them to find and move through and comprehend the information you’re sharing.
Mentoring more junior designers on your team.
Designing and moderating your own research initiatives throughout the discovery and design process with the support of the Research and Insights team.
Defining success metrics to test your experiences against once they are in production.
Previous experience / qualifications
3-5 years of experience
Proven ability to partner with Product and Engineering leaders & peers to deliver great experiences
Well-versed in a broad range of design methodologies
An outstanding portfolio demonstrating the successful delivery of innovative interface design solutions for mobile and hardware interfaces
Experience presenting and rationalizing UX design strategy and decisions to diverse audiences using these moments as opportunities to advocate for users, share knowledge and demonstrate design thinking in action.
A portfolio that clearly shows your ability to design pleasant and functional end to end experiences.
Experience with product discovery and research
Excellent visual design skills and attention to detail
Proven experience at all stages of the design process – ethnography, research synthesis, problem/opportunity framing, storyboarding, journey mapping, making wireframes, building prototypes, crafting high-fidelity visual designs, or supporting scaled production efforts.
Experience designing setup flows and troubleshooting for hardware is a plus
